Dael Fry

Struggling to get a game despite our lack of centre backs
McNair and Dijksteel preferred last night
Also Wood played well against Shrewsbury
Think Fry has a battle to get back in the side

He must have been gutted McNair got a game before him. Saville seems to be the new whipping boy but all I can say is Northern Ireland must have a much smaller pool of players to choose from than they usually do.

Sorry but I don’t rate Fry, he gets bullied too much and isn’t a great communicator. I still remember the beach ball game at Charlton 5? years ago and he hasn’t kicked on enough for me. Really hope we bring in 2 CBs.

He hasn't really been the same since the fairly lengthy injury he had a season or two back. Also, I don't suppose Pulis shifting him from pillar to post across the back four will have helped him any even though I'm sure he would have been delighted just to have been playing in the team.

Hopefully it gives him the kick up the backside he needs. He’ll never make it to the Prem now he’s regressed so much I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually ends up in the lower leagues

Fry hasn’t had a good 12 months, since he was linked with Burnley last summer he has gone backwards.

Another reason could be the absence of Ayala.
He was the rock that kept the defence together and whether some like it or not will be sorely missed this season.

Fry, almost certainly is lacking some fitness, if he was poorly he would be
or I do believe he would have started last night.
Bound to start on tuesday though.
Its his chance....but I dunno, he needs a confidence booster.

whatever happens we still need another central defender in sharpish.

All true, I merely pointed out possible reasons.
I maintain Ayala’s leaving And disappearance from Fry’s side is the main factor on his demise.
We can't write him off yet, but he has to improve pronto.

Such an important position. You need confidence from your 'main' centre half.
Shame how he has regressed. Remember watching him having a solid game at Villa in the play offs. Big vocal crowd yet he coped so well. Thought he would just get better and better.
Chopping and changing at the back hasn't helped.
Neither did sticking him on the left hand side of a three.
Looked nervous as hell in the games after the Covid break - with him suffering a crisis of confidence at the back and player like Fletcher hardly winning a header at the other end it sometimes felt that the whole team was made of glass.
Think Warnocks 'back to basics' approach will be a relief for all the players and we'll see a pick up in form for many of them

I'm sure everyone would have liked him to stay but he over baked his own value

He’s regressing mate. By now you should be showing major signs of improvement he’s been first choice for over 2 years. I wouldn’t normally write someone off at 23 but he was dreadful last season and looked poor midweek. He’s just not kicked on

He was poor last season I'll admit, diabolical at times even. But, to suggest that a lad who's just turned 23, won't play at higher level due to having a bad season under an inexperienced manager and in a team that had no shape or gameplan is a little over the top... He's played all levels of England youths and rated by all the mangers he's played under and by Gareth Southgate... If Warnock gets the best out of him there's a good chance he'll be playing prem football next season be it with the Boro or another club.

He was better at 18 than he was last season. His decline has been rapid. During the years when you should be making huge strides forward he’s regressed massively. It doesn’t bode well for the lad.

Despite what some fans mike think of him he’s probably our most saleable asset right now . We won’t be doing a Burnley and bench him for too long , especially at a time we’re desperate for a CB

What Neil Maddison said pre match is surely very important here. Fry missed two weeks, about half of pre-season training due to quarantine. It is going to take him time to catch up. I remember many years ago Barry Robson saying that missing pre-season had a really detrimental effect on half a campaign for Boro. He never felt he was completely up to speed or on a par with his teammates. Boro have sports scientists on board these days, unlike in the Strachan dark ages and so Fry should be able to catch up quicker and he will certainly get enough game time this month, especially if we progress in the cup.
