Dael Fry under Woodgate

“I think I have demonstrated that Wilder didn't think Fry was good enough because he signed a new centre back (Lenihan) and put him in the team instead of Fry. The fact is that is that in Wilder's games that season Fry played only twice alongside Lenihan totalling 90 minutes in total. I would speculate as well that if Lenihan had not got injured he would have continued with McNair, Lenihan and Clarke as the three throughout September and at Coventry City.”

Despite the criticism (did he actually name Fry?) he still picked Fry against Sheff United (having supposedly bought Lenihan to replace Fry) in the second game of the season…and then again against Reading….and then again against Swansea and then Watford.

He played Fry an awful lot considering he didn’t rate him.

As previously posted, he picked Fry for 2 out of 7 games in the opening part of the season until Lenihan got injured. He didn't make the second half of either of those two matches he was picked to start. At that time it would look, based on line ups, that Wilder rated Lenihan and other defenders above Fry. If he didn't then Fry would have been a "first choice pick" and started all 7.

I think the point posters are making on this thread is that Fry is no better or no worse than the other defenders at the club who all, Fry included, have a tendency to make one terrible error per game which can sometimes be costly. Our defence would have been no better or worse had Fry started against Sunderland.

Sorry mate. I don't agree with that. No point flogging a dead horse anymore. I think i've made my point, as have you.

Dael Fry generally defends well, but makes some errors when asked to play a possession game and play high risk passes out from the back. Something he will always struggle with.

Edmundson also struggles with this, PLUS, makes basic horrendous defensive errors like trying to play people who are 5 yards onside offside, not tracking runners or falling over a football whilst trying to head a ball 18 inches off the floor!

Fry all over, every day.

How come Dael hasn't got a song after 10 years at the club and Edmondson gets one after about 10 games, please don't count he's one of our own as his song.
Seriously though Dael Fry on his A game is as good as anything in the league let alone our team,I do think he'd be better alongside a dominant leader of a centre back,he reads the game well and is deceptively quick.
