“I think I have demonstrated that Wilder didn't think Fry was good enough because he signed a new centre back (Lenihan) and put him in the team instead of Fry. The fact is that is that in Wilder's games that season Fry played only twice alongside Lenihan totalling 90 minutes in total. I would speculate as well that if Lenihan had not got injured he would have continued with McNair, Lenihan and Clarke as the three throughout September and at Coventry City.”
Despite the criticism (did he actually name Fry?) he still picked Fry against Sheff United (having supposedly bought Lenihan to replace Fry) in the second game of the season…and then again against Reading….and then again against Swansea and then Watford.
He played Fry an awful lot considering he didn’t rate him.
