Cummings will be gone today

Surely the Senior Tory MPs on the Commons Liaison Committee will tell Boris Johnson that enough is enough and Cummings has to go ?
They cannot risk Groundhog Day whereby 40 MPs are in revolt especially with Brexit trade negotiations still to be sorted.
In fact, is there anyone who thinks Cummings will not get the chop ?

I thought he was nailed on but I'm thinking his fingers go even deeper than I originally thought..

I have a feeling he's pulling a lot of strings we don't know about. The press didn't even touch on his involvement in the tracing app.

So from that angle, he may weather the storm.. there's plenty of people I can see on various social feeds defending him. Especially that pic of the paparazzi doing the rounds.

You've got to remember Fmttm is a serious labour bubble (notice not left wing just Labour).

I don't think he'll go at all. What with Grant Shapps (if that is his real name) willing to wandering into loads of media presses during the weekend to defend him, SnakeGove willing to say that he also goes on a drive to test his eye site (ok he couldn't quite pull that off but he tried) and Matt Hanpenis happy to completely change the lockdown rules to get fines rescinded, only to be over ruled almost immediately. The Tories have a huge majority and only press from in the party can sack him. Major ministers have proven they'll humiliate themselves for him and Johnson just can't let him go, because he'll be next.

Sad but he'll stay. It's so depressing because I feel so helpless as our own democracy is being ripped apart before our very eyes.

Yep, he's going nowhere. No matter how rough it gets for them.

The only thing that might change that would be new evidence that he'd made further trips breaching lockdown.

He will get sacked. There is a poll due to be released today that has 82% of the public believing cummings broke the lockdown rules. So whilst this board is a bubble, the wider public want cummings gone.

There is the liason committee today, which may force Johnson's hand, but I think he will brazen that out, particularly given that 2 of his biggest critics within his party have been "uninvited".

Next week we are back to PMQ's and whilst the employment of Cummings is a purely internal matter for Johnson, and is actually none of Starmer's business, the reality is I think Starmer will pile in on a couple of points:

1) On how much time this is taking leadership away from planning the ease of lockdown, regardless of the rights and wrongs, downing street should be concentrating on 1 thing and 1 thing only. To allow the Cummings distraction is poor leadership.
2) You have defended someone who has quite demonstrably contravened the legislation that he himself helped to frame.

Johnson will have to fire Cummings to maintain any credibility.

Can you imagine if he now goes? Johnson will get slaughtered as will the party - may even be more damaging to them long term.
The media team are fully aware of that and will want to tough his out

There is also something doing the rounds on twitter saying 'the focus groups' whilst interested in this story don't see this as a big issue.
Their track record of judging the public, to date, has been a good one, don't forget.

With over half the majority calling for his resignation or sacking [with possibly more Tory MP`s waiting in the background] he is the anchor dragging along the political seabed, which is likely to pull Johnson and other members of the Government overboard.
Its clearly an untenable situation.
The public are not stupid or thick.
They are angry.
We have long memories.
Naked hypocrisy - unashamed liars and bulshipper`s: its about those who have died and the overwhelming majority of us sticking to the rules - whilst this arezole thinks rules dont apply to him.

I hope this is true...

Stop giving me hope. He stays.

Mind you if, and it's a tiny if, he did go, I'm not entirely sure that'd be good for us. It'd be the downfall of the useless Johnson and probably see Gove slithering his way into the first lords of the treasuries house.

Meet the new boss...

The only way this government will let him go is if there's another set of revelations this afternoon.

It is a massive inconvenience for every cabinet minister at the moment as every interview on their latest launch or response to the pandemic and lockdown is getting knocked down the order as they have to defend Cummings dragging their own reputation down with him.

It's four years to an election, this is what the opposition parties need to dig in for - a long hard battle to win hearts and minds that there might actually be a better way to conduct politics and public life beyond brazen lying and sneaky contracts to friends.

The public are not stupid or thick.

I'd disagree with all of that. Recent times have shown people believe their side no matter what they say, and are quick to forget transgressions.

He'll be going nowhere, as long as the government tough it out a few more weeks, throwing in some distractions on the way

To paraphrase Men in black. A person isn't stupid or thick, but the public are.

You can whip people up en masse. simple slogan and things on the side of buses can influence the public way more than rational though and detailed plans. That's been proven time and time again.

Sadly, the public don’t have a long memory. If the Tories chose to ride this out it will be forgotten. How many ethically dubious issues and turnarounds have they gotten away with?

The only way Cummins will go is if the press don’t let it go, they stir public opinion. It’s a long time to the next election, popularity polls at this point in time are irrelevant.

The British Public are hardly likely to take any meaningful stance, they will chunter and forget. The next political scandal will come along, the Tories will treat us with contempt again and we will chunter some more.

The people voted for this, how can we expect anything else? Brexit to many was more important than just about every other political issue - we have allowed this and will continue to allow this, unless there is a significant shift in the way the public protest.

This is more wishful thinking sprinkled with the usual conspiracy theories that Cummings is secretly the one in charge.

There are 2 reasons why he will stay:
1. It won't lose them a single vote because by the time the election comes around it'll all be forgotten about.
2. He's obviously excellent at what he does. Admittedly a lot of people the decisions he makes but his employers are happy with him and if all of the government's policies are really his then the public are evidently fans as well.

doubt he will go, they are still sending out the stooges to tow the party line, wouldnt be much point if he was about to go.
cummings has too much to gain from the tracing app/vaccine contracts to budge.

I know 3 people who voted Tory that wont again as a result of this.

People wont forget this.
You have to wonder why they voted for them in the first place? If I’d voted Tory I don’t see why this would turn me to labour - it’s not like they have any common ground. But I guess that’s part of the problem with where we are at the moment, one emotive issue can over rule all other considerations for many, it’s bonkers.
