Cricket Fans - New Stands at Lord’s

I did a tour of Lord's once. The spaceship press box was much less glamorous on the inside.

The tour was excellent.

As a birthday treat to myself I bought a ticket to the final day of England v West Indies a few years ago just a couple of days before the game.

Quite a different experience from watching on the Western Terrace at Headingley I can tell you that.

Lord’s is quite different to any other cricket ground. Have you been to the Oval? Much more aligned to Headingley.

I enjoyed my (so far only) trip to Lord's, had a good wander round the ground at lunch, took in the museum and was surprised that you can wander round the back of the member's stand and mix with the members. Obviously you can't get into the stand but aside from that pretty much wander round everywhere. Gift shop is actually worth a look!

The Lord's "hum" is a thing, different to Headingley of course, champagne corks not beer snakes but, impressively you can take your own booze in. Supposedly one bottle of wine or four cans per person but nobody checked (quick glance in your bag) so you could easily double that.

You were lucky Muttley. They have been very thorough on the alcohol checks in my experience of going - normally.

I found it far less thorough than most music festivals and certainly Headingley, CLS and Trent Bridge. Mind it was a busy time, I rocked up just after start of play (it having taken slightly longer to get across London than I thought), and I guess they were just getting people into the ground as quickly as possible.

Only been to Lords once, an evening of 20-20 between Middlesex and Surrey, a warm night and the ground was full. I didn't take any booze in, I'd gone straight from work, but there was plenty on offer, food too.

I absolutely loved it. Haven't been to Durham for an evening game yet but we don't have the same public transport accessibility up here to do the same.

Have done many a 20-20 Surrey Essex Sussex matches v Middlesex at Lords. Usually sell outs with. Great atmosphere. Even music (and dancing girls in the early days) at Lord’s!

you would be so pi$$ed off if you lived in one of those blocks of flats that meant you have been watching free cricket for years, and now had your prime viewing restricted.

Billy those new stands have been constructed at the nursery end and are not blocking the view of the flats on St John’s Wood Rd. You can still see the pitch from them over the Tavern Stand.

No, but would love to go to the Oval though.

Lords was on my bucket list and the experience didn’t disappoint. Being able to wander right around and spend lunchtime on the practice areas behind the media centre was great.

I’ve missed the days at the cricket with my lad during the lockdown. Had T20 tickets for England at Durham and live going up there for the Durham Yorkshire games.
