This new journo seems a bit odd.

Anfernee Dijksteel shows his mettle
"I thought Dijksteel was magnificent, so I was proven right wasn't I?" said manager Neil Warnock at full-time after being asked about dropping Dael Fry to the bench in favour of Paddy McNair.
It was a huge show of faith from the Boro boss to the 23-year-old Dutch defender against a Watford side who, including substitute Glenn Murray, had a combined value of £23million, according to player value specialists TransferMarkt.

Just seems a little odd.
Is he trying to say that this was a better Watford team tan it originally looked (11 first teamers out)?
Not sure how strong a source 'specialist' TranserMarkt is but......
If we are looking at cost just 5 of our players cost (15m+7m+6.5m+5).
Probs only worth now a fraction of that £33.5m mind.

Article is fine. He’s in a bit of awkward position having wanted to keep a job and being parachuted into the Gazette.

Couldn’t give a flying what transfermarkt is about or what they are making up.

What is he getting at though?
That the Watford team did actually included a few players who cost a few bob (like 3.5m for the young brazilian MOTM)?
Or is he emphasizing the fact that it was a makeshift Watford team?
It just seems like a superfluous piece of information.

Our starting 11 last night, according to Transfer Market, has a combined value of £24.75m! Add substitute Wing to that for a total of £27.27m.

On a national paper having a rudimentary knowledge of the teams is fine as you are more focussed on the game itself but I think on a local paper you do need that historical knowledge especially at a club like ours which is very parochial in our approach just look at erimus and the like on here with their nostalgia based threads.

I think this lack of key knowledge could undue his credibility as most clubs would hark on about glory as Their defining moment as in 73 with sunlun ( or at most other clubs) but for us it’s not the spirit of 2004 we remember fondly it’s the spirit of 86 and we do that for a reason.

The bloke doesnt seem to have been given a choice by his employer.
Hes on a hiding to nothing.
Offer the job to Rob - he seems to know a bit about the Boro lyke;):giggle:(y)

Don't think there's any odd about the article, just standard stuff. But I do think it's defeating the object of having a local paper. Casualty of modern life I guess.
Typical journalist "job" article.
Not his fault, but it doesnt ooz passion or confidence.
Its like a Government White Paper:(

The Spirit of 86 alongside the madness of 96/97
