Craig Hignett

Brilliant player Higgy. We should've never let him go when we did.
Probably let him go at the best time. We brought in better attacking players and barring his time at Barnsley, Higgy never really happened to be on the same level he was for us at clubs for the remainder of his career.

Scored just under 1 in 2 at Barnsley and did well at Blackburn and won the league cup if I remember rightly. We did establish ourselves in the Premier League after he left but we were lacking a Higgy type attacking midfield player for a couple of years in my opinion. Especially with Merson leaving for Villa too. You look at some of the goals from that highlights reel and I think with Hignett in the mix we could've been even more successful. He would definitely have offered more for us than Gazza did who was a shadow of the player he used to be.

Gazza wasn't bad that first season back up, but I agree Higgy would have certainly still got his fair share of games.

Higgy epitomized everything that many young players lack these days, grit, determination, team player-- would die for the cause. Not to mention he scored some really great goals, so he wasn't just a midfielder, he had a lot of poise and quality and always looked like he wanted to do well and wasn't happy with just with a 1-0 win.

Genuinely didn’t realise he’d came on in that League Cup final for Blackburn! Was always under the impression that he helped them to get up then became a fringe player, happy to be proven wrong.
