Craig Charles on R6

I love R6 because it is largely genre agnostic. I've heard everything from modern classical, funk, dance, rock, indie, folk, jazz, african, etc., etc. on 6 and long may it continue. I quite like Mary Anne Hobbs, not so struck on Nemone or Steve Lamacq but I'm sure others do. Vive la difference, eh?

Percy is always an interesting interview.

You mean she doesn't play predominantly guitar based music ?

Some people, maybe not you, expect 6music to basically be restrained to a playlist of early 90's - late 2000's indie music, with a few crossover dance acts thrown in to make it a bit more eclectic.
This should be the genre of every radio station, in fact this should be the only genre of music allowed on any platform.

Mary Anne hobbs is absolutely dreary. We occasionally switch on at work and then switch off again when she starts talking. Her show is too dance orientated. Nemone is the same. They think everyone wants a full dance set at 11 in the morning!

The good djs on 6 music keep it mixed. I can't stand listening to lamacq trying to be funny, but at least he does a good set.

I seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't mind Steve Lamacq.

Can't agree more about MAH, it's an even tougher listen for me at it's my breakfast show. I don't listen to 6Music until 7 am local time (after her show has finished).

I really enjoyed Chris Hawkins doing the slot that Keaveny used to have, let's hope Craig Charles keeps up the standard of today's show.

I don't mind Lamacq, but do think his musical taste is extremely limited and his choice of new bands (Fountaines DC in particular ) are dreadful.

MAH is following in the footsteps of her idol and mentor and playing a lot of challenging music that she herself likes. Whether that's suitable for the time of slot she has is a different matter, but I do enjoy a lot of what she plays.

@goalscrounger - I used to use the Sounds app to play Lauren Laverne's breakfast show on my way to work, even though it would have been 3pm in the UK at the time, and then follow through the day with Robert Elms on BBC London for his morning show on delay too.

That's gone now except for Friday and weekends. It's non-stop 'talk about the issues of the day with a bit of nondescript music thrown in' all morning these days.

Yeah I know, I have the misfortune of belonging to the Robert Elms Appreciation Society (REAS) group on Facebook. They make this messageboard look a bastion of common sense and civility. You'd think the changes were designed specifically to upset them all personally.

Heh! I didn't know there was such a thing and I'm not on Facebook anyway, but I can imagine, though I'm still at loss about the change which, incidentally, puts Robert Elms up against Cerys Matthews on R6 which *is* the best programme on the station.

Can we agree that, aside from her unfortunate mackem-ness, Lauren Laverne is the finest broadcaster on the BBC (never mind DJ)?

I think we can.
Sorry Muttley - it’s a no from me
Mind you I do find MAH plays some really challenging stuff which I end up enjoying. Anyone who champions Jon Hopkins is good by me.
