Covid: No plans for October lockdown, says government

And that just isn't possible... Life is for living. Live it. If it was 50/50 whether I die of Covid I'd take the risk because life has been crap. And has been for millions. So if you support more lockdown, restrictions, firebreaks or whatever other guff Johnson will come out with, I don't want to know and to be frank, you're a selfish idiot.
And you seem to have a basic lack of English comprehension if you can quote and then respond to my post in that way.

What part of "We need to find a way, together as a society, where we both drive down infection numbers AND avoid lockdowns." did you not read?

The fact that we can't just return to normal is because we've failed to deal with Covid in a sensible way and 200k+ new cases a week is testament to that.

As for calling others selfish, and by quoting me directly I'm assuming I'm a target of your ire as well, then you obviously have no sense of irony either.

"where we both drive down infection numbers AND avoid lockdowns" This hasn't been done anywhere in the world other than strict/enforced lockdown.

No live music, no sporting events, against the law to see family... Yeh, I've over reacted. "We've had it a lot better than most" - I couldn't care what other countries chose to do. My life, in this country, has barely been worth living. The same for the thousands who have committed suicide, the same for the 600 a week dying at home without covid. But everyone carry on, blinded by " let's save lives from covid"

You are massively deluded if you think, long term, we have done the right thing. In 10 years this will have been the worst public health policy ever. UtB.
I don't think we have done the right thing. As I have said our delayed lockdown and subsequent lockdown lite have caused many deaths. As I have said we have had it good compared to so many other countries. You may not care about people but I do and if we look back we'll realise we weren't exactly brutalised at any point. Only had one real lockdown and have allowed life to carry on much more normally than a lot of places

You care about those people that will benefit from what you think is right. Not those that will be massively, negatively effected. Go you.

It seems that Adi's post and the reason behind it have escaped ST completely.

let's just keep the conversations civil, no need to accuse people of not caring because they have a different viewpoint.

So you admit we didn't have a strictly enforced lockdown then?
If we had reacted earlier to the threat, had a proper lockdown and limited the spread and then had an effective t&t system to control flare ups then we would all be in a much happier and safer position.
As it is, we did none of the above and from government all the way down through the public we've got off ourselves into the position of having amongst the most infections anywhere and facing another winter where Covid will be a major part of our lives.
So yes, we do need to start, as a society, to drive down infection rates and avoid lockdowns because, despite all the money spent and pain inflicted on both the living and the dead, we have spectacularly failed to do that so far.
Or, as you suggested, we just lock up "the vulnerable" and let the rest get on with it and say "tough luck" to anyone who dies because they didn't meet what ever cutoff being vulnerable entailed. Shall we also add that "Oh, and if you do survive Covid, please be aware that it is so rife that you might get it again and not be so lucky the second, third or fourth time. Crack on."

Why do you say that? That's unnecessarily nasty. I'm just pointing out that as far as lockdown go we haven't had it too bad. I'm not in any way accusing people of not caring. I am being accused of not caring but you're ignoring that bit. That's a shame for you.

Not sure why you would want to attack me when I'm the one who was accused of not caring. It's begin gin to feel like you have a vendetta against me. Which is sad, for a semi anonymous message board.

You said you might not care but I do. The sentiment was obvious.

Let's just keep the conversation civil.

Way to miss out the context. Interesting you're pretending to take the moral high ground by actually being nasty. Shame.

Anyway I've had just about enough of your constant sniping. You said on another thread you "no longer want to interact with me"

Funny how you DO want to interact with me to insult me. Not a good look for you

OK. I didn't interact with you beyond answering your reasonable question. I didn't insult anyone, but if you see it that way rather than trying to learn lessons earlier in the thread then apologies.
