Coventry City are re-iterating to supporters that the Coventry Building Society Arena is an all-seater stadium.

While the Club continues to explore safe standing initiatives for the future, and is currently undergoing consultation with supporters on this, it is important that fans do not persistently stand during matches, while the Coventry Building Society Arena is an all-seater stadium.
Persistently standing for the whole game, or for long periods of it, is against our current ground regulations. Doing so may affect the enjoyment of the game for other supporters, whose view may be affected, as well as your own safety and the safety of others. We want to remind all Sky Blues supporters that persistent standing is not permitted at The Coventry Building Society Arena.

Following dialogue with the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) if persistent standing continues there is a possibility that sanctions may be action taken against the Football Club - this has the potential of an enforced reduction in stadium capacity on a matchday.
Alongside today’s reminder on our website and social media, there will be further reminders to supporters on matchdays.
The atmosphere at the Coventry Building Society Arena continues to be rightly praised, and we want this to continue, but it must do so safely.
We thank Sky Blues supporters for their co-operation and understanding.

It's always difficult to enforce standing in the home areas when the away fans consistently stand without challenge.
I can recall, quite a few years back, MFC reducing man utds allocation due to persistent standing. Not sure why they picked on them.

Yet absolutely nothing they can do about 2000 or so fans standing up. It never effected the Kopp etc. Just an empty gesture / threat.

I understand it in the majority of stands. Fans will deliberately go into those stands that are more family friendly and you can sit. I doubt you'd chose to go into that corner at Cov and not expect to stand.

Although I've also no issues with a designated end or corner where like minded fans who sing and stand go and be together. I mean you wouldn't buy a ticket in the Boro south stand and moan about people singing / swearing and standing. You've got 3 other options (stands) that are like going to the cinema.

It's probably more of an issue when attending away games. The chances of people standing are very high. That's clearly a problem if you've children or incapable of standing for long periods. That or a short ars* like me.

Lad I used to work with was a West Ham ST holder of many years. No issues standing at Upton Park, but when they moved to the London Stadium he - and a few mates - got a letter one day warning them to stop standing. Nabbed by CCTV. Next game, stood again, another letter with a final warning.

They never went back, gave their STs up.......😁😁. I like a bit of petulance like that👍

I bet you looked up to your Sergeant (y)

there seems to be some sort of clampdown going on generally at the moment, must be something from the authorities. we had a "problem" with it, to be fair to the club they have responded by introducing safe standing in some areas in the last few weeks, but they will police the non standing areas more strictly now. I think they mentioned they had to do it as otherwise the capacity may have been reduced, which for a ground our size is not a good look!

The SGSA have the power and authority to close a section of a stadium.

I don't mind standing at the ground but I personally can't do it for long periods because my knees won't tolerate it, whenever I go I always try to pick a seat right at the front like I did at QPR ( last season) or right at the end of our away area like at Cardiff , where I could more or less see the whole pitch without standing, but as a spectacle I do like fans standing as it adds too atmosphere. At the Riverside I don't see why there should be a problem the South stand was reclaimed from away fans and Red Faction has made its own where it known for it's atmosphere and standing comes hand in hand with that.
Maybe old timers who like the atmosphere but don't want to stand for the whole match could claim another section of the ground , probably the North west Corner , where the ' Old Gadgie Faction' sit and sing through the match, with chants such as 'my blanket is warmer than yours' at away fans and ' by far my soup in the flask is the greatest the world has ever see' . Just point us old gadgies in the right direction, wheel us of there, and we are ready to go( after a toilet visit).

The SGSA is the government advisor on safety in sports grounds - they backed rail seating, safe standing that we witnessed in the Championship last season at Cardiff and will also see at Birmingham. The idea is to give those that want to stand an option to stand and those that want to sit an understanding that no one will stand in front of them. They inspect grounds around the country and have the power to issue or revoke licences. As rail seating is rolled out they are likely to become more assertive in blocking persistent standing between rows of seats. Hopefully they will not force clubs to bring in rail seats as not every Championship club will be able to afford them. They don't come cheap. If Middlesbrough were to put rail seats in much of the South Stand we would also have to offer the same choice to away fans in the East Stand. Am not convinced standing between seats is a major safety issue apart from when there is idiotic behaviour. In fact the government paused legalisation while searching for any incidents/accidents. There was little to find. But it isn't good for anyone that cannot stand or is small to have someone standing in front of them throughout a game and many have said this can put them off away matches.
Last season not every Boro fan travelling to Cardiff was asked whether they wanted to stand or sit. I raised this with Boro and Cardiff. I found Cardiff City didn't issue any guidance to away clubs. Am hoping this has been corrected after I contacted their safety officer. I was certainly asked whether I wanted to sit or stand v Birmingham City - I hope the tickets were split up by Birmingham.

The four stands in the ground should be

1. Old people's stand. No standing. Rails next to stairways. Free blankets. Lots of moaning.
2. The family stand. No standing. No swearing. Annoying children who kick your seat.
3. The shortarses stand. Lots of standing. Only people 5 10 and under. Lots of swearing.
4. The long streak of **** stand. Same as above but for people 5 11 and above or short people with big hair (eg Amy winehouse) or large hats (eg isembard kingdom Brunel)

We could possibly split this up even further into blocks eg tall people who don't like drumming and don't like people coming up with new songs but enjoy standing. Short people who like new songs and letting off flares who film everything they are doing for tiktok. People from Stockton. Goths. Etc.

Fixed that for you.
Moaning is what we do.

I like the sound of both of these; No1 for the free blankets and No3 for the short arses. I like a good moan too. Not fussed about the swearing but I’ll put up with it.

What about adding having complementary coffee, tea or Bovril brought to your seat? I would really like that.

Give the South Stand free tickets, a sax and trumpet player.
It's never full, and they could do with livening up.
