With zero football knowledge managed to get 3 pointless football related answers in the final.

I'm well impressed.

The answers were, Kazakhstan, Israel and Benin.

What was the question?

I didn't fully catch the question, but to paraphrase, it was something like.. Name the international teams playing in the confederation groups(???) of Europe, Asia, Africa etc.

Apparently there's 100s of pointless answers but I'd have probably over thought it.

They just used their geography knowledge, ker-ching!

Maybe its a generational thing. I'm 60 years old.

My nan, used to refer to my mam as my dad's 'tart'.

Which was short for 'Sweetheart'

I don't know, the colloquial term 'bewer' where I come from isn't derogatory, just the female version of gadge.

Would you prefer I said bird, chick or lass?
Of course it's derogatory. I'm sure there were lots of other terms which were 'acceptable' in your 70's youth which you would have the decency not to use today.
You can add bewer to that list.

She didn’t just use her geographical knowledge. She knew that Israel and Khazakhstan had teams that played in the Champions League so figured out they were part of UEFA

I certainly didn't know Kazakhstan was in Europe or could name one Kazakhstani domestic team. Or indeed, off the top of my head, name the capital even.

I only caught the last bit so assumed it was about the Euros, CAF Confederations Cup etc, so assumed the answers were international, not domestic teams in the Champions League.

I did hear someone say they used their knowledge of geography, rather than knowing anything about football.

About 5% of Kazakhstan that is west of the Urals is technically in Europe.

Kairat Almaty have won the Soviet league. I was luckily at the Shakhter Karaganda match when they beat Celtic, and saw a few FC Astana Champions League games when they went unbeaten at home. It’s not a great standard but it’s not shocking.

It's actually 10% of Kazakhstan.
Which sounds small, but Kazakhstan is such a huge country that its European portion is bigger than the the UK, and all but 6 other countries in Europe.

I believe there used to be a Boro supporters club there, due to Teesside oil & gas workers. I've got a photo somewhere.

That's the limit of my knowledge of the country.

I’ve heard anywhere from 4% and up to 10%. Depends on where you draw the line on the Urals and Caspian. I lived there for 5 years and can vouch it’s massive and often very empty!

There were 4 Boro fans in my small group, plus a few other NE folk. All teachers in the capital when it was still called Astana. There was even a former Boro player interviewed for a PE teacher role but I never caught his name. Despite its recent troubles, Kazakhstan and it’s people are utterly fantastic.
