Costa del Sol ….

I keep saying to the missus 5/6/7 years I’m outta here, this country is a dump and ran buy

It isn’t going to get better in my life time

My sister lives in Perth OZ, maybe thinking there or Dubai

Sell up enjoy
Hmm, every country I’ve spent time in has had its problems and was generally disliked by its populace. Having said that I’m quite happy to state that I’d rather live in Stevenage than Dubai.

A house on lake como my ideal choice but crazy expensive

How did you find the Mozzies , We have rented Villas In Teulada and Moraira and found them really bad both times ( May and September ) so much so it has put us off going back. I also got bit by one of those tiger ones.

We lived in Benitachell and I cannot recall being troubled by mozzies, in fact the nightly noise of cicadas got to us at first but we climatized and soon slept with just the normal bars and nets at the windows.
It was a wonderful place for pigeons too. If the fanciers didn’t dye them as a display of ownership then the Spanish shot the nuisances. In Yorkshire here we are plagued by the little buggers.

Having lived in Stevenage for 3 years back around the millennium, that is some statement but I’d agree, not for me the Middle East but know plenty who love it. Off to a leaving do this weekend for some friend who are off over there, not young neither so will be interesting to see how they get on.

I do like the Costa del Sol - there are parts that are really nice - but its got horribly expensive for property. Our plan was to move there when we retire but we are now thinking about other places. Almería as @spanishman has said is definitely a possibility as is Murcia and the Orihuela Costa (Torrevieja down to Mar Menor) due to the lower price of property. We are planning to visit there in a couple of weeks to check it out.

With climate change and the increasing droughts in Spain, we are also starting to think about the North - Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia. Its been a long time since I visited there but a visit next year could be on the cards.

I love Cantabria and Asturias, but by heck it's wet. Proper Atlantic weather. But in exchange you get lush green countryside, forests, stunning rivers .... not drought, ever.
I would happily live somewhere like Llanes. Or Santander.
Bonus is the fantastic food ... the best steaks and the best cheese on God's earth, Cabrales.

We have a place in Carvajal, which is a short drive from Fuengirola. As you've said, the beach side roads are all very built up, but if you head back from the beach it quickly gets a fair bit quieter. Shout if you need any info.
I came across your post about having a place in Carvajal while I was looking for something else. That brought back memories, as it was the very first holiday I took with my wife, around 1985. Back then it was a very quiet area. We stayed in an apartment owned by my wife’s boss, right on the beach. At the time the road along the beach ended in a cul-de-sac, so there was hardly any traffic.

We did return years later for an afternoon while staying in Fuengirola, and I was amazed at how much the area had changed.

the cul-de-sac is still there! There’s an unbelievably good seafood restaurant at the end of the road called Los Marinos Jose.

The area keeps getting bits of investment, they replaced the old Chiringuitos etc, and relative to everywhere else it is still on the quiet side, especially out of the summer holiday season. I was there a few weeks ago on my own and it was lovely
