Work are telling people to self isolate for 2 weeks if they’ve recently been to one of 15 countries, will probably see more added over the coming weeks.

Personally think it’s an over reaction and the actions taken to date are not going to stop the spread...may slow it down somewhat however the genie is out of the bottle.
 
Thinking of coming back from Barcelona for a bit as there's now 2 confirmed cases, I feel like with the population density here it could spread pretty fast. My main worry is being put under 'lockdown' for a period, it'd be utterly miserable.

I won't reveal any specific details, but a relative was turned away from a surgery this morning when they'd went in for a routine respiratory checkup and they were advised to ring 111 and arrange for a Corona virus swab test as they'd been in Singapore in December.
On ringing 111 and experiencing a bit of a wait, they were rightly told that there was no need to worry and that they shouldn't have been turned away from the surgery.
I can sort of understand the reaction at the surgery to be honest, but you'd think that they'd all be on the same page with regard to the timescales of when exposure was likely.
 
...... and the panic sets in here .... my local pharmacy (and it's pretty big), sold out of surgical masks this morning.

I was asking for a friend ....

Wouldn't surprise me to see a big spike in the UK in the next week or so. Seems to have been a fair few school trips to Italy. I guess it depends on how serious their problem is and whether they were quick to start the precedures that they have. If they were too slow then we might be about to see it ramp up over here.

It would never happen in my day. The farthest I went on a school trip was Whitby for a week.
 
I do think that the media are absolutely treating this appallingly ... Wall to wall coverage constantly barely a mention of facts.

They then have more coverage where they 'dispel' the rumours they have created!

It's not ideal and we will no doubt get some serious exposure to it. That said stopping events and travel etc seems more to be about governments flexing they're control muscles rather than reasoning

Can’t help but agree with you.

The panic seems to have been ramped up this eeek and fanned by a media encompassed by a cacophony off sensationalism. We are in a world of social media. Stories from everywhere some unsubstantiated, schools closing in panic and the media excitably throwing them around and irresponsibly in my opinion.
This is a dark time at the moment. It needs leadership a calm focus and a sense of perspective from our media.

I don’t think the media have anything to do with the stock market crash. That’s been caused by over dependence on China in the supply chains.
 
Breaking news: Steve Bruce tells Newcastle players not to shake hands for fear of the virus spreading through hand touching. Did he also tell them to stop spitting on the pitch then rolling around in the same spit when accidentally tapped on the ankles?!
