Coronavirus video - New Zealand vs. UK

It hasn’t gone unmentioned on here how well Jacinda Ardern has run things from the front. On almost Daily at the press conferences with firm clear succinct fair decisions. That is leadership.

Agree with that zoo. It is hard to transpose one countries methods onto another, but great leadership is the thing that makes any approach work.
We've been sadly bereft of any leadership.

22 days now, with no new cases, no active cases and a couple of active clusters, think they have to be free from new cases for 28 days or something before they can declare them as finished.
Some people now wanting our borders open, Air NZ flying to Hong Kong, Singapore and japan from next week, but still have to quarantine for 2 weeks when you get back.
Whether you agree with her politics or not, and I incidentally do, she has been an amazing leader through this.

Can I put my hand up here and say that I too think New Zealand have had superb leadership, and I'm not even a fan of Ardern's economic philosophy.
I think Australia has done equally well, without getting the same plaudits. Taking into account Australia's 25m people compared to NZ 5m, the figures are comparable. But let's face it, ScoMo isn't as sexy as Jacinda, either in personality or in policies (the media darlings dislike an economic rationalist, and love a progressive leftist).
One thing Morrison did that was very effective was form a National Cabinet with the state Premiers and managed to get these leaders from across the political spectrum to all work together. I'm hoping that might be a permanent improvement in Australian politics.

tbf Otto Morrison had just gone through a crisis with enough learning of what not to do to at least have an understanding of possibly what to actually do next time. But I should credit him with learning, which is something our lot consistently fail to do.

Watched the rugby live from NZ this morning. Ground packed with fans back in their normal seats. Not a face mask or social distancing protocol needed. Just needed good leadership to fight and recover from the virus.
