Coronavirus in Spain (late Feb 21 onwards) - thread for the latest (3rd?) wave here - starting with a glimmer of good news

In Malaga city we've just been put into two weeks of non-essential businesses and bars/restaurants closing because of the rise in infection rates, though Sur are also reporting a better outlook ....

Interactive map of cases and rates / 100,000 people by community in Malaga province (top one) and Andalucia (2nd one)

Great maps. I see your one updates daily and has data from yesterday.

Do you know how often the one for the whole of Andalucía updates? Is it weekly or twice weekly - as it has data up to 1 February at the moment?

I guess it must be a lot of effort to keep it up to date!

Lanzarote has 922 cases, 53 in hospital 19 in ICU. 298 cases per 100,000 that’s reasonably low compared to other regions, but almost as high as the peak during the first lockdown. There were about 30 cases when I came back to the UK on Boxing Day.

I‘ve come to terms with not getting back until late April or May, but it pi5šes me off every day when I look at the cctv and see a sunny 26 deg 🙄

Sorry to hear that. It must be a bit worrying.
It's strange but I'm not as worried as back in the spring. I guess it has become the new normal.

But it's not good, they'll be coming back as soon as they are negative. A few weeks ago we have 4 all positive at the same time and they came back very quickly. Apparently in the whole factory 3000+ people there are 23 positives and another 14 suspected cases.

These are the peak numbers and the date when they occurred:

In Hospital – 66 – 28th January 2021

In ICU – 23 – 8th February 2021

There have been 25 deaths since the outbreak began.

Rather than keep posting lots of separate stories I thought it sensible to start another single thread about Coronavirus in Spain.

The first article referenced in the thread is one that gives us a little bit of hope.

Oddly you can never say anything good about the UK.

What have the restrictions in the canaries been like through the winter? If it looks like restrictions will happen again next winter, I'm seriuosly considering 6 months in the sun doing nothing rather than 6 months here

When I came back Boxing Day (supposedly for a few weeks 🙄) the only restrictions were to wear a mask in all urban areas and keep it on in restaurants and bars until you’re served. At some point there was an 11.00pm curfew imposed, no trouble to me. More recently in January a six pm curfew on bars and restaurants has been imposed and you can only eat in the outside area of the restaurants, but to be honest you would anyway. They’re trying to get this lifted. If you smoke you have to do it well away from any tables, even outside.

The restrictions aren’t much, but they are heavily policed.

As I’m typing this I’ve checked my cctv and it’s sunny and unusually cool at 21deg, it’s usually about 25 when I check at the mo. It did rain on two days last week and it rained heavy one day in January, before that the last time will be mid Nov. And the big bonus nobody realises is that it’s light until about 7.00 pm.
