Coronavirus good news thread

Good news - no new cases in China should be big news - we are 7 to 8 weeks behind them, but if we can get to no new cases by the second week of May that would be good news too.

I do think there is some planning going on to minimise death rates. In the past it tended not to happen. In 1918 people were only told 4.5 months into the Spanish Flu virus that it existed in the UK.
Agreed. Thing is, cases in China WILL start going up for a bit now as they are loosening travel restrictions. No native cases but they are starting to import more now. That said it seems to be a contrallable number so far.

If anybody missed this news - and let's face it, the media don't do enough reporting of positive news - do you remember the couple onboard the cruise ship that was moored in Yokohama, Japan in January? David and Sally Abel were at the time widely publicised as David Abel posted a daily blog about being in quarantine onboard.

They subsequently got tested positive for the disease. There was also bad news reported about them being in bad hospital conditions for a couple of days.

Anyway they have both fully recovered and are back home in Northamptonshire. Just in case you missed this news

Over 125,000 members from all around the world for a Facebook group. Showing an "online festival" tomorrow and Sunday. Rock The Lock Down.

Originally a small scale thing proposed by a couple of people on the Costa del Sol.

Good to see a sense of international community spirit.

Exactly. Why aren’t confirmed recoveries widely reported in the numbers? Doesn’t fuel the media fire.
Because unfortunately good news doesn't sell newspapers and keep people under control.

Back to good news the situation in China is very promising and the current situation in Italy seems to be the very top of their peak. Expecting a rapid downward trend in the next few days.

In truth, the media fire needs to be fuelled on this because people are not listening to the government's advice. There's no one who likes Boris less than me, in fact my only criticism of him here is that he hasn't taken enough action. We really do have to listen on this one.

I’m not a big fan of Tories but Wollaston was a big loss to Parliament. A few good MP’s with medical backgrounds were lost at the last election. We could have done with them right now I reckon. Another Brexit dividend.

I'd be more confident if Wollaston was Secretary of State for Health and Social Care rather than people like Hancock and Whatley.

Surely we can do better than a historian, economist, financier and management consultant as ministers in a specialised department. Dorries is the only one with some medical background.
