Crikey. It seems like yesterday yet it seems so long ago. I was in Germany for the weekend for what turned out to be my last trip away. I think I probably knew something big was coming. There were already some cases in Germany and the first thing I did after crossing the border into Aachen was to buy some hand sanitiser. It's something I normally did when travelling but somehow it really seemed important this time. I used it regularly throughout the trip. On the day this thread was started I travelled to Halle for an entertaining 3-4 defeat for the home side. On 1 February I was in a crowd of 42000 at RB MK Dons Leipzig and the following day I went to Berlin to the old Olympic park top see Hertha reserves lose at home in a regional league match. While it was clear something was happening I couldn't imagine that it would turn out as it has. Travelling back on the Tuesday I was in the last coach as we went through Belgium. After my ticket was checked, the two staff doing it pulled out their hand sanitiser and, almost ceremonially, disinfected themselves. Something was going on alright but if you'd told me then that I'd be spending all but a few days of the next year within 3 km of where I live I don't know how I would have reacted.
