Corners

Why all the short corners🤷‍♂️ you can’t score unless you get the ball in the box. The referee was poor at getting their players 10 yards back. We definitely need to improve on set pieces, when was the last time we scored a goal from a decent set piece?

We don't really have any natural attackers of the ball in the air.
Crooks is 6'5" but unfortunately not great. Fry isn't really aggressive
Perhaps maybe Lenihan is our best bet?

To counter these weaknesses we have decided to stop trying.

Lack of imagination on the training ground.
Last seasons corners were pi$$ poor, set pieces too.
The answer, short corners of course.
Reverted back to the conventional poor corners after about 12 of them.

Infuriating that we wasted so many corners and persevered with the short corners, when it was obvious it wasn't working.

Then, after the tallest player on the pitch goes off we start playing direct corners, although in fairness I think the players bowed to the pressure from the fans in the end.

99% of corners seem to be headed away by the defender on the front post anyway so why not just keep the ball and try to create something from that. Admittedly we didn't really create anything so short or direct corner, the result is the same

Can anyone ask Carrick WTF were our corners about , how the func are we supposed to score when we had 4 players within 20 yards of the corner flag , and only 4 in the box , please tell me this didn't work in training, because if it did our defence is mor shoite than I thought

Short corners can work but they work best when it's a change from the usual. When they are the norm and they are expected they seem easier to defend.

They were so predictable. If we had a corner on the left side the ball would be worked across to McNair, he'd look to dink it towards the back post for someone to head it back across goal. Didn't execute it properly once though.

Good to see the graft on the training pitch paying off today.
Oh well, maybe next year.
I know, has any side in history ever been as woeful as we are from corners.

It goes back years, we spent 7mill? on flint and had pulis as manager and we were still shi** at them.

It's like we are cursed. It's no surprise we now see them as akin to a throw in and just get the ball back in play.

I've never seen anything like today. It looks like we've just given up 😂

I get they have 2 big CBs. Yet what's the point of a short corner when it doesn't result in the ball going into the box.

Just seemed really odd. At one point maddo said we'd had 9 and not one resulted in a cross. Really strange ' tactic '

Absolutely ridiculous that McNair had to push Rogers away in the 85th minute to swing one in. Rogers is our “striker” today and one of the tallest players. He should be nowhere near taking a corner.

Bryan Robson wasn't the biggest, but he would kick the door in to get on the end of a corner kick, even if it meant colliding with the post and suffering a concussion for a fortnight.

That sort of self-assertiveness is what's missing. Less to do with the quality of our setpieces or heading ability.

I noticed in the end every time we had a short corner ( that I don't think we have EVER scored from) their goalkeeper lit a cigarette and stood leaning against the post. He knew we would have lots of little dinky passes but ultimately they would get back possession.

Brazil loved to keep the ball and pass it around with confidence, but at least you knew they would score in the end. No cutting edge at all. Teams will start to work out our fear of taking shots at goals is back and park the bus and just let us waste time passing the ball with no end product.

Apologies for being so negative. Prove me wrong MC please?

If we are only doing short corners that's it. I'm out. I'm going to support harringey borough instead.
We just need to bring back a corner routine from the 80s when 79% of all goals were from corners.
Man at the front stick gives it the eyebrows then you've got your big lad at the second post who nods it in. Everyone else should be tweaking nipples and giving Chinese burns.
