COP26, are we truly lost?

With nations acting behind the scenes to alter the restrictions on carbon emissions do you believe that financial interest of Australia ( Coal) and the lovely cuddly state of Saudi Arabia( Oil and medieval butchery) etc will , in reality end in a climatic horror show.
It all comes down to dollars in the end doesn’t it?
I despair, but not absolutely . I just find it hard to discuss with my Daughter, what I really feel the planet will become, as she bounces my grandson on her knee.
We are walking into hell, the planet , it’s seas , it’s cities it’s rivers , are already polluted to hell.
we need to reverse not maintain ( or in some cases increase!) carbon based power usage.
Why aren’t People , especially younger people , angry? , I mean really really angry?
The major polluters are the major corporations , their behaviour is nothing short of evil and they should be brought to account. Why aren’t the CEOs of these firms called out and condemned.
Wheres the political will? Where is the Anger?

Greta Thunberg has shown the anger of the youth today but in return she gets mocked by Presidents and shunned by some parts of social media. But the anger is real. And growing.

Oh some of them are. Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain are two groups. But apparently they protesting in the wrong way because they are blocking roads and such like.

I'm sorry but we need to get angry we need to disrupt we need people to be prepared to go to jail and people to die. It might even take riots in the end. The governments around the world are so in love with the impossible lie of perpetual growth and the corporate bottom line that they will do anything to prevent real change taking place.

I quite liked the planet the way it was when I was growing up. Fukk knows what'll be left for the next generation just being born. Everyone who has ever voted for self interest to protect their own bank balance rather than the good of the poor is to blame as much as the liars.

Exactly this Muttley. What is the use of protesting if you do not inconvenience some people? Beacause that is the only way to be heard and listened to.

Said it before we'll have a lot to answer for in 3 or 4 generations time.
Blue H2 is just a massive con.
The £Billions ploughed in to the O&G majors should be spent on Green H2 or more wind or more tidal not the perpetuation of fossil fuels.

Why does change and protest equal an opportunity for civil unrest in so many peoples minds? Like its the default option. It wont work, its akin to kids throwing a tantrum in a supermarket, multinationals and million dollar CEOs will just look on like bemused parents then carry on with what they were doing. The power already exists in the hands of everyone of us as consumers but nobody wants to hear that, nobody wants the inconvenience of each taking a measure of personal responsibility, you want your cars, your holidays, your energy inefficient homes and heating, your produce flown round the world, your life support machines (aka tablets and phones). Many of us will work for companies complicit in environmental harm. If youve ever worked in oil and gas or for a petrochemical company which very many teessiders will have done then congratulations - this is your legacy, want to see it reversed? Then YOU do something about it TODAY. How many of you bemoan the deterioration of british industry, wanted british steel to remain open for evermore? No credit to Thatcher for her policies but turns out the toxic cloud had not a silver lining but a green one and a win is a win is a win right? What the actual fug is laying in the road having a tantrum actually achieving TODAY? But yeah, smash some windows in central london again - worked like a charm so far hasnt it - good grief  So, no - for the second time this week, its not someone else fault, at least not entirely this time - its YOURS as well, so own it instead of bleating on.

I mentioned Anger, you equated that as civil unrest, why? is that how you behave when your angry, having a tantrum like a child.
As an adult my anger would be political action. Anyway,You appear familiar, I see a block coming on, but let’s see if you can involve yourself in a serious debate .

my response wasnt directed at your opening post so....

That’s a no then, “ off on one” really?
I accept I misinterpreted your post as a direct reply to mine and I apologise for that.
What would you suggest as to what we could do to avoid what appears to be an inevitable conclusion.
I’m not suggesting violence despite the fact I see it,in rumblings of war in Korea, Taiwan and the former USSR satellites being part of the diversions being use to ignore the climate issue.

This ain’t aimed at you

but as long as grandparents continue to vote for right wing governments, their grandchildren won’t have an opportunity for a good life

a"no" to what? "of(sic) on one really?" what - make yourself clear. Yes, you clearly assumed I was referring to you, youve got over excited with yourself and had a pop at me. Meanwhile, I wasnt even referring to you or your post. Just dont rush in and make a fool of yourself in future is all im saying, now take it on the chin and carry on as you were. oh and your ignored for false accusations

The anger that is really felt, not smoke and mirrors anger, is felt by the wrong people....we are the wrong people..The real people who hold the power and wealth,in my humble opinion, really only care about power and wealth ..

expand. If youre referring to my mentioning thatcher youre missing the main thrust of my post which is civil unrest or "riots" will achieve very little and take a lot longer to do it in comparison to direct consumer action which is obviously the foundation of all large corporations which are damaging the environment. no customers = no profit = no profit = no production = no production = no/vastly reduced pollution, but people dont want to accept that because a new iphone is out. its quite laughable really to think the extinction rebellions efforts are all utterly futile in the grand scheme of things when it only concerns little old britain, our impact on global climate change is being grossly over estimated - we are but a small nation in europe, were not china, not india, not the USA...its ok if its beyond you
