COP26, are we truly lost?

Oh some of them are. Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain are two groups. But apparently they protesting in the wrong way because they are blocking roads and such like.

Exactly this Muttley. What is the use of protesting if you do not inconvenience some people? Beacause that is the only way to be heard and listened to.
But they aren't inconveniencing the right people? Why aren't they blockading MP's driveways and places of work? Why are they blocking Jimmy the plasterer from going about his work, who could be sorting a wall out for a family who've recently had work done on their home to insulate it better? What good is it blocking kids from getting to school where they can be taught how to become better custodians of the planet than me and you are?

That's why the common man and woman gets ***ed off with them because the likes of XR and Insulate Britain are targeting the wrong people.

I don't think they have been targeting the wrong people at all - the campaigns have been brilliantly planned, executed, have worked more than anything before them, and are continuing to work - well done to all involved. I wish I had the conviction and aptitude to join them.... but am ashamed to admit that I feel the battle won't be won, and nature is pretty much fooked already, and the end of the human race has already started

happy thursday! :D

Some simple stuff - insulating properties should be number 1.

Eat less meat and animal products

Don't fly

Walk, bike, bus, train instead of car, if possible

Keep clothes for as long as possible

Buy second hand stuff more

Turn thermostat down and wear a jumper and thick trousers.

Recycle everything you can

Collect rainwater say for plants, car washing.

Don't leave devices on stand by

Use LED lighting

Don't waste food

Wear clothing a number of days before you wash it. (not underwear/socks)

Reduce packaging

Reduce temperatures on washing machine

Grow own food

Shop local where applicable say from local farmers

Most of this I have been doing since 1990.

The above could reduce our carbon emissions by significant amount before we even look at very expensive ground heat pumps and/or electric cars.

Many of the world leaders attending the summit are staying at Gleneagles Hotel, some 75km away from the SEC. A fleet of 20 Tesla’s, costing circa £100k each, will be used to transport them back and forward. Unfortunately Gleneagles only has one Tesla compatible charging point, so a plant hire company has been contracted to install some temporary charging points, powered by diesel generators.

With nations acting behind the scenes to alter the restrictions on carbon emissions do you believe that financial interest of Australia ( Coal) and the lovely cuddly state of Saudi Arabia( Oil and medieval butchery) etc will , in reality end in a climatic horror show.
It all comes down to dollars in the end doesn’t it?
I despair, but not absolutely . I just find it hard to discuss with my Daughter, what I really feel the planet will become, as she bounces my grandson on her knee.
We are walking into hell, the planet , it’s seas , it’s cities it’s rivers , are already polluted to hell.
we need to reverse not maintain ( or in some cases increase!) carbon based power usage.
Why aren’t People , especially younger people , angry? , I mean really really angry?
The major polluters are the major corporations , their behaviour is nothing short of evil and they should be brought to account. Why aren’t the CEOs of these firms called out and condemned.
Wheres the political will? Where is the Anger?

We are lost. If we didn’t have a nation of Tory sheep only interested in the we might have a chance but as long as we have people stuck in the 1800’s like Jacob Rees Mong we are done for.

Crazy

don’t have a clue what your banging on about.
Really? Its pretty straight forward, in fact its absolutely linear so im not sure where or how youve gotten lost along the way and you seem old enough to not need your hand held so its obvious youre being deliberately obtuse because you know your argument is fundamentally flawed. Its funny how so many people want amd champion decency and respect but then completely abandon those principles when it suits them. I dont think society had changed that much since the 70s and as woke as some like to think they are i see misogyny masquerading as “laddish” banter and forms of “acceptable” bigotry go unchallenged and even encouraged among certain posters. It exposes their true character and i its quite fascinating to see them so readily expose their true, and ugly selves.

The Lorax is a superb film. From a personal experience after both children had watched it (for the umpteenth time) my eldest actually came out and said she wanted to plant some trees. Which we did. It's in our little front garden.

No need to put the cost of the vehicles in there.

Is the rest true though? I know gleneagles has 2, not 1 charger and there are a further 2 at the train station. There are also a tonne of destination chargers in and around the SEC.

A Tesla model X could do that journey over 4 times without needing a single charge.

I'm not saying they haven't put a diesel generator in. I wouldn't put that past them.

It is just incredibly unnecessary and sounds more like a typical "EV are impractical" lie to me

Another stellar contribution to the thread - first you dont understand and now an emoji - are you some kind of trainee troll?

You're put on ignore because you add no value and cant think for yourself 🥴
I can, I’ve seen the tone on a few threads, you have the hallmarks of the resident troll

Ref Planting trees (no brainer)

If I was PM a lot of this country would be covered in trees in no time. We have an excellent climate for many tree species and generally good soils in this country. I don't like conifers.

I would have set away land for ready tree planting all over the UK. Anyone wanting a Government subsidy would have to priove they had planted (or contracted another) to plant 10 trees on this land and have their name against the trees. I am getting a bit sick of greenwash talk, its practical doing that matters.

Some of the trees could be later harvested for reliable green energy.

Trees also give life, unlike £15k ground heat pumps or £40k electric cars.

You can buy an electric car for 5 grand.

Also, why mention it, and the cost, at all? You act like it's a choice between planting trees and installing heat pumps? Belive it or not you can do both unconnected things

I'm pretty sure I'll be voting green at the next election. Wonder if they will have an increased showing as they're a good home for Corbyn voters, and environmental issues have been brought a little more to the forefront now brexits finished. Plus the liberal democrats are pretty ****.

I predict a big surge in green support in coming elections. It's a significant driver of vote for young people and they're the only party which comes vaguely close to meeting those needs.

The Conservatives see it, sceptically, as an opportunity (to win support and line pockets) and I think Labour cosying up to big business may seem them tone back the rhetoric slightly.
