Contact tracing app relaunch

I'm.having to use the app to take my daughter to her swimming lesson on Friday so will be downloading it.

It's really only there and the school run that I've frequented publicly past few weeks so I'll use it for those two trips.
You've changed your tune a bit since pleading with us all to ignore the governments regulations!

Uptake estimated to be max 30% which, by the way, they say will still make a reasonable difference.
loads of people out there without the capability to download and will not spend the money to upgrade

I've completely missed this in the news? So is this the app we're all supposed to be using now? I know there's a couple of pubs near me which posted on FB this morning that all patrons must scan in using the app, refusal to do so will prohibit entry

I'm not going to stop my daughter going to school or having her swimming lessons mate. Plus as I've already mentioned I'll be turning off my bluetooth and location when not visiting those two places, no point me having it turned on at home or at work or at my parent's house. Just a battery drainer.

Quote from guardian article

Officials at the test and trace programme, however, believe there will be benefits even if few people adopt it. A recent study by the same data team at Oxford University, looking at the experience of Washington state in the US, found that if 15% used an app that notified them of exposure to an infected person, infections were reduced by 8% and deaths by 6%

Downloaded it and it's working. If it helps to curb the spread of the disease then why wouldn't you download it? Too many people looking for excuses not to bother.

Will someone explain to me how they stop Google Android and Apple from gathering all the information they are so concerned about sharing?
DCI the app is anonymous. It creates a temporary key that identifies your phone, but not you. It then logs the keys movements, allows you to check in to a location. The key is stored for 14 days. If the phone is in close proximity to any other phone they keys are logged on the server as being contacts. If a key tests positive then all the contact keys get a push notification to the phone.

At no time is personal information gathered. The server does not know who the key belongs to.

Periodically the key is reset to a new key.

The app is anonymous.

Just a minute, if the app notifies you of a phone user with the app and who has notified they have the virus, why venue log in codes?
Because all venues have to record who has visited the venue and it is their responsibility for which they can be punished if they fail to do so.

The app is another tool for the venue to collect names.

I know & Im happy with it but I dont understand why people are complaining about it being an infringment on privacy when the android & apple software probably hoovers up far more information yet people dont seem concerned about that

I suspect it would be because the government are generally held in pretty low regard at the moment so the mistrust is understandable. I am fortunate that I work in the industry and understand how the app works and I looked into the google api months ago. It is secure.

Oh yeah? This is exactly what they would want us to think. You don't fool me!

Genuinely confused about how this App helps us.

We are told the virus spreads and will continue to do so.

I think the premise is you get a notification saying you have been in contact with someone who has tested +ve so you self isolate - but you don’t have to, it is optional?

In the August trial apparently 45% of notifications that went out involved false +ves.

You then come out of self isolation (if you have done it) and you get pinged again, and again.

I’ve read that it can be useful as you come out of lockdown - we are going into lockdown.
Also read it can be useful if an effective testing process is in place.

Would be interested in thoughts or links to sites

Any links to the August figures as I've seen a number of comments that the data hasn't been made available?
