Companies Not Closing

It is really difficult times for non food shops etc and if they close you fear many high street shops will never reopen. But should it not be for the local management and staff to decide if non essential chains should close? Is it fair on their staff and indeed their customers? We heard about Waterstones closing after a deserved backlash when staff revealed there we not allowed to wear masks and were being given no hand gels - and today loads of chains have closed - those that remain surely need to close now as well.

I said chains - because the decisions to stay open are often being made by the bosses of big companies not the local manager. It needs the head of Primark, McDonalds etc to act. Or the government to tell them in no uncertain terms. We are not talking about small, local independents, a one person show.

Primark and McDonald's have closed haven't they?

What about industry? Most of our Management are at home with their laptops while we are sat around like battery hens.

They should close and the government should give them 3 months free rent and rates as a thank you when they re open. .

Sports direct remaining open, class themselves as an essential service as they sell fitness equipment......

That's fine, but no one is allowed to leave the home to go to them, unless they sell groceries or medicines.

But didn't the government promise £3 billion for industry - presumably to support those businesses having to close. I'm not following the UK situation as closely as others, but I assume there has been further detail on how this money was to be used - or was it just waffle?

Why is construction a key industry, unless they're building the 40 new hospitals.

Presume it's because they want these houses to be available for sale when the restrictions are relaxed. They can't have building companies going under again like they did in 2008. Plus many in construction work alone on sites (or can do anyway).
