Touched on this in the sam morsy thread....maybe a bit premature but is it time to start giving Paddy the credit he deserves?

Froze out under Pulis but in my opinion, barring the odd game, he's been very good since the start of last season under woodgate.

A very good champ midfielder and on the basis of this season, an even better defender. Delivery on him is the sort of quality i've not seen from anyone in a boro shirt for a while - both from set pieces and open play. Did he always have that in his locker??? Strong in the tackle, reads the game well from the back and can drive forward with the ball.

Chipped in with some important goals last season too, that goal he scored in the 1-0 win away to charlton just before lockdown proved quite invaluable. If stoke are still interested in January i hope we tell them to fek off.

Keep up the good work Paddy.

Ageed, I couldn't believe some people were advocating his sale in the summer, when it looked like Stoke were interested in him.

Hes been great at the back, but I still think midfield is a better position for him; he's mobile, quick, strong and can get into the box and score goals - not many midfield players can do that, even less at Boro.

I will be honest, If McNair had been peddled in the summer I would have driven the car.
However this season he has been a revelation.
He is playing very very well.
Hopefully this form continues.

If it does, and he goes back into a midfield role With the same form and yes....,attitude, we will have a winner.

I think its down to Warnock on whether he sees him as more valuable at the back When Hall returns.

And of course if McNair fancies going back into midfield.

Even McNair's biggest fans couldn’t have said he had a decent season just gone.
He was lethargic, went down easily and was generally poor.
Hence, one of the reasons for our flirtation with the drop.
This season, whether its just the change in position or otherwise I don’t know, but he has been a revelation.
Long may it last.

I kind of agree and disagree with that. I think the lethargic issue coincided with the rest of the team looking the same - from what I saw it just looked like everyone had given up on Woody.

He did go down easily but i thought the majority of times it was intelligent play.

I don’t think many were advocating his sale because they were wanting him gone tbf, I think it was more a reflection of practicality with us possibly having to sell to fund reorganisation of the squad. Agree though he is playing well and has the freedom to press forward when appropriate. He is our best provider on set pieces too.

Despite being inconsistent (the only consistent players were consistently poor) he was always the one who looked like he gave us something creative from midfield.
Hes been great this season, but he's always had the ability.

Or trying to con the ref ?
I Don’t like It !.

You are certainly right that the lethargy ran right through the squad but thats where you rely on your alleged better internationals to pull you through.

McNair has shrugged off his lethargy, however Saville still hasn’t.

Hes playing well. Much more effective in this position. Not sure why he should move back to midfield when he is night and day compared to last season.

I don't think he'll be going to Stoke now. His next move will be to the Prem, barring injury. Ball playing centre backs who can actually defend properly are in demand.

Can see why Sheff United were sniffing around at the start of last season, looks perfect for their system.

Saville looked tired but still did a job, dropped a blob or two. Needs a day off training or so.
