Getting a new kitchen fitted this week and have invested in a fancy built in coffee machine that grinds its own beans, only had a Tassimo pod thing so far.

Now, I'm no expert (I like McDonalds and Greggs coffee  ) but could any connoisseur's recommend the best beans to buy to get a coffee shop taste?

so many places roast their own beans these days. A good place to start would be Pact Coffee, its a subscription based thing but from memory easy to set up and turn off as you want. They previously did the first order FOC.

The best thing about having a bean to cup machine is easily being able to choose and try loads of different beans to find something you like. Can be a ball ache to clean mind.

Joe Rogan always talks about some 300MG coffee on his podcast, I drink de-caff cos I like the taste but don’t deal great with caffeine.

Anyways probably not helpful, but good luck in your hunt nonetheless.

Try Lonton Coffee if you would like to support a local business - based out of Barnard Castle and they make my wife and son's favourite coffee - No19, and the boy has used all sorts of 'artisan' roasters including another one he likes Bailies out of Ireland I think.

I take my Coffee black and no sugar, I want to taste the coffee not the milk or sweetener. I have paid artisan £20 and Aldi £1.99 for a lb of ground.
Try them all, don't be a snob- drink what you like, I like the Aldi Coffee, it's pretty decent for the money and well worth it.
As for Cafe Coffee, forget the chains, if in the Boro, just go to "Off the Ground" best Coffee for miles and miles.

I use a local company, they used to be based in a cafe ( Relish ) on Redcar high street but now it’s order online or they attend a lot of farmers markets etc as the coffee business has taken over, the owner Matthew is a really nice guy, known him since we were kids.

Thanks for advice.

Started off by ordering from Rave. Italian job blend and Chatsworth blend but I’ll give them all a go over the coming months.

Lonton and Rounton will both be hearing from me too. Thanks again.
🤞 You'll love it. I like the idea of constantly changing coffee beans but I hate wasting beans dialling in new ones. I'm saving £10 a month with the subscription over the Nespresso stuff I was buying.

Anyone who loves coffee only use freshly roasted coffee beans. Ikea, Aldi and all supermarket beans are already stale when you buy them.
Still often ends up much better than any ground or instant stuff though, and you can buy massive bags and get some consitancy going. Also depends on the quality of the valve etc.

It's like going from:
Instant 3/10
Ground 5/10
Old beans 6/10
New beans 7/10
Knowing what you're doing and being dialled in with Ground, Old, New 8-9/10
James Hoffman 10/10

A problem I found with Rave was that even making the same order every week or month that I would have to dial the machine in constantly, which ended up with a lot of drinks nowhere near as good as they could or should have been, and by the time the machine was dialled in the bag was half gone.

To be honest I think most people just like how fancy it looks, I've made a thousand crap coffees for poeple which I know are not "right", yet they all say they love it (as it looks the part).

I drink more black coffee now, as on a diet and don't have claories before 2pm, but I prefer just using half decent grounds for that and the aeropress.

“Man of the people Labour councillor exposed as extravagant coffee drinker”

🙂 coming to the Gazette front page very soon!

I’d give a shout out for Pact. Been with them for years so definitely found what works for me. Decent price too.

sorry , just a point of clarification, I'm reading this that the people are not 'right' . is that right ?
Hmm, that's confused me, so not sure how to answer that, so I'll reword the statement as:

"I've made a thousand crap coffees for others, where I know the coffee I've made is far from optimal, yet they all say they love it. They seem to be more satisfied by how something looks, rather than how it tastes."

For me , I have been fine with french press or drip filter at home. There is a coffee guy on facebook that popped into my feed about 8 months ago. Sorry I don't know him but he knew his stuff and had been in the industry years. He did a world cup style knockout of the 40 most frequent instant coffees found on our normal shelves here in the UK. Tasting notes for each one, each round meticulously prepared with same vol same temp same quantity water and all other parameters being equal. It's about an 8min video as he gets it down to the top 4. I bought the one which he declared the winner and had it over next 5 weeks. Nice, but as he said, you can't get close to the complexity of filter. I haven't bought it again but would if needed to.
You can ask me what won, but I'd have to charge :D

Littles Smooth Colombian £5 for 100g , I only found it in Holland and Barratt
