The heat wave has reduced wind generation to 4% (from 30% maximum) due to low wind speed and gas fired generation reduced with high cooking water temperatures

It's a fine balance this electricity generation.
 
I would have thought a heat wave would have meant the water that you were cooking with would mean a slight reduction in energy use if the water was a bit warmer than normal - high cooking water temperatures

Energy usage is much lower in the summer months, but we have still had to resort to coal.
 
This country still burns just over 6 million tonnes of coal per year, not just for power station generation but al so general industrial use.

Power usage in the U.K. dropped dramatically during the lockdown period.
