Chuba

Britt , first season for us 17/18 played in every game to half way point ( game 23) played all mins except 40 , scored 11 goals in that period , making 185 min per goal,, but then stalled and only scored 4 in second half of season , totalling 15

Choobs, 9 in 1057 mins , only 1 game to go to half way point. 114 min per goal ,,

I'm not comparing with Bamford, as he was not our registered player then , when he got 17 in 14/15

I wonder if Everton / Palace will bid for him? Important player for us but everyone has their price.
Why do we always worry about players going. Im sure Burnley or Sheff U assets dont get picked up half way through a promotion campaign. Selling any player from a team motoring should be totally out of the question - at any price.

Not worried at all, to be honest. I think he's doing well but is replaceable. Could be that we don't have to sell but if they offered £15m and it allowed us to buy two players then maybe the club would take it.

Two issues with that. Firstly finding two players with a combined transfer value of £15m to score goals won’t be easy in a mid season transfer window and bringing “money” players in could disrupt rhythm and harmony in the squad. I agree we should not accept any bid at this time.

He's 27, and it's half a season of a career the rest of which he's been the opposite of prolific.

Obviously anything can happen but I would be very very surprised if anyone offered us anything like a fee that would be enough to tempt us. I think he's been brilliant, an absolute revelation.

But if I was the fan of a premier league club looking to drop £15m on a 27 year old journeyman based on a purple patch of 6 months in a lower division, I'd be pretty underwhelmed. I'd probably think it was a panic buy.

And the fee would have to ridiculous because it could potentially derail our season. It's not just his goals either, it's his link up play. Not easy to replace anyone mid season. Let alone a goalscorer.

It's not going to happen.

Oh if a club is desperate enough they would drop outrageous amounts these days. Burnley got £25m last season for 30 year old Chris Wood who scored just 3. Ok that was from a club with money come out of the ears but it’s the way football has gone.

True, but Wood was at least a proven goalscorer (incl at premier League level). And of course Newcastle had blood money burning a hole in their pocket.

I just don't see anyone dropping that amount on a player of Akpom's age based on nothing other than 6 months form in the championship. But it's possible of course.

At 27 he is in his prime , experienced , talented and in form , he will be valued the same as Gyokeres around £15m - £20m , and I can’t see Boro standing in his way if he gets a premier league opportunity, in fact good luck to the lad .
£17m and Simms ? We shall see soon enough .

I agree with maddo better sides will always want good players that’s a positive.

It’s football.

What Everton / Southampton fans think doesn't really matter. If their club wants to spend crazy money on a panic buy, they will do it. I'm not saying we should be listening to all offers for Akpom, but if somebody wants to pay a huge amount for him then I don't imagine we can turn it down. We don't have the money that Burnley and Sheff Utd do.

If Carrick/Scott could get an excellent loan signing in to play that role then maybe we would accept a huge bid. Carrick is working with the tools he has and is doing that brilliantly, but maybe he wants to play a different way in future, ie. not with a 10 who sits deep and holds the ball up, and not with Forss and Crooks playing out of position. He may ideally want two out and out strikers and another winger to push Jones.

Akpom is having a brilliant spell and is happy but nobody could blame him if he wanted to go to the Premier League - we sent him off to PAOK for most of his time as a Boro player so I doubt he feels like he owes us anything.

No what their fans think doesn't matter but my point was from the outside looking in I'm not sure many clubs would think Chuba is the answer to their problems given his track record over the rest of his career.

Do Coventry and Preston have the money to turn down bids? Because they managed to do it in the summer. It's not just Burnley and Sheff United. We don't have to sell, we were practically willing to give him away in the summer so I'm pretty sure we can afford to keep him.

He's said Carrick is the best manager he's ever worked with, so from a footballing sense I'd say he's pretty happy here.

I suppose it's possible Carrick is sat there thinking "damn Akpom scoring all these goals and linking play as a number 10, I really just want to play 2 strikers" but I seriously doubt it.

I could also imagine Carrick saying "We don't want Chuba to go, and we don't welcome any interest, but if there were to be a huge bid for any of our players then the club would need to think carefully about it".

We can't think that Coventry and Sunderland would be open to selling Gyokeres or Stewart if we come calling but we can simply turn down any sizeable offer for our players. Same goes for Isiah

Who thinks Coventry are open to selling Gyokeres? Pretty sure they turned down sizeable offers for him in the summer, that's exactly the point!

Every player has his price, but I don't think we'll get a big enough bid for Akpom to tempt us.

Coventry might attract a big enough bid for Gyokeres because he's now done it for 18 months and is younger. But even then it'd have to too good to turn down I would think. £20m + possibly.
