Chuba signs permanent deal

I think he still has a lot to offer at championship level playing as a no 10 although he wont be as prolific as that season. Could Hellberg get a tune out of him i think he could especially given the number of chances we create.

Hell let's get the band back together chubba latte strelec and Conway. That should be enough fire power to get us up
Giles was key to Akpoms goal tally. He must have created half of them

I think Chuba's ship has sailed.

Nothing he's done before or since that season have suggested he's a player to build a team around.

I do think he can be good again, 14-20 goals a season, but I'd be amazed if he ever hits those heights again.

I think there's a realistic chance we'd have seen 3rd tier football if we'd kept him. Not that next season, but in the 2-3 seasons after.

My goodness I am so so glad we didn't fall for the trap and sign him at the fees quoted.

I remember being one of the very few on here to be desperate for us not to sign him.

I can't believe so many were desperate for us to sign him. He is exactly the type of player we should be staying well away from.

Other than a 6month spell for us (when he was outstanding) his career has largely been a disgrace.

Ipswich blasting £7m/£8m on him is awful. They'll be lucky to get a 10th of that back.

It's not as if they can turn round and say the £7m/£8m was worth it as he got them over the line for the £200m prize.....he didn't. He contributed virtually nothing to their season.

He's proven to be a massive waste of a lot of money for Ipswich.

Disappointing one as I think if we'd had Akpom this season we'd have made a lot more use of him than they have, and I expect he'd have added at least the 4/5 points we needed to finish above Ipswich and in the top 2.

But as others have said, I'd rather the club move on now, even if we're still in the Championship next season. Ends up looking/feeling desperate to keep going back after the same players time and time again.

So he is on about £55k a week - Ipswich will have to 50% subsidise his wages in a loan move.

An ex pro I know who knows people at Wrexham told me Kieffer Moore is on £28k a week basic at Wrexham. Wrexham are one of highest payers in the Championship.

Aye I’m sure the bank balance will soften the blow, but he must have moments where he thinks “bloody hell, i’m 30 now and my career has gone nowhere since 2023”.

Wonder if he regrets not staying here

I doubt it. I think he got the best move and contract he was ever going to get.

I don't think he'd have done as well the next season because he set the bar very high. I think he could have done well, broken the 20 goal barrier, but not 30.
He'd have has a lesser support cast around him too: the loans would be gone, and Chuba's sale has directly or indirectly financed pretty much every signing since.

So i really don't think we'd have been promoted, and his stock would not have been as high the next summer.

If he'd stayed and floated around the championship with us, I'm sure he'd be wondering "what if" he'd joined the European giant.

Did you read the £55k a week bit?
That’s what 2.8m wages a year. Add in the 2m amortised transfer fee. He will cost the 4.8m a year an a goal of 19.2m when he leaves them at the end of his 4 year contracts

I loved Chuba, and on loan at 20k a week to sit behind strelec I’d take him. But to spunk 20m on him was lunacy by Ipswich

He has but I think it was a scattergun transfer from Ipswich they really never played him as no 10. It was like mckenna had never seen him play before. He could go to a mid tear championship side like a derby or a west brom play as number 10 and easily rip it up again.

Strelec, Akpom and Archer as our strikers next season 😍

If we had those 3 this season we’d be up

Yeah lets drop our two top scorers who have 27 goals and 12 assists between them this season.... and replace them with two over-priced players who have barely scored for 2 years.

That's the thing with obligation to buys, go wrong and you've got a player you don't want.

Bet he's got a pay rise aswell.

Ipswich fans are not happy at all reading the comments on the announcement of the signing.
Always thought these obligation to buy things are a bit weird. I do get it for the clubs though, it's a way of securing a deal with a club, above some other options. The idea being if you get promoted then you should be rich enough not to care. It's like kicking the can down the road I think.

Thing is, for the player it's kind of pointless if it doesn't work out as they're clearly just not going to play. I know some players don't give a toss about the football, but most will be so rich the money/ pay rise will make little difference, and will feel pretty crap if they're not getting a game. I suppose the idea could be that once promoted, they just push for a move for a reduced fee and a pay cut, and the selling club just take a lesser hit.

Not sure what Ipswich fans are whinging about though, this was all baked in a year ago when they got him, when they probably all thought it was a great risk free signing. He's filled a bench slot, and covered for a number of positions, as like 2nd or 3rd sub option. Probably not been great, but I doubt he's stunk the place out like a few of our subs for example.

He's 31 in a few months, so this will practically take him up until he's 34. He won't be able to play in the prem at that age, probably not even the champo either.

At the minute this deal is going to cost Ipswich £8m + 3 years of what 50k per week? That's like £15m spent, for someone who won't get a kick in the prem. If he does get a kick in the prem they won't survive (assuming his form is the same as this year).

Can see him being sold to a champo team (or abroad) for £2-3m and them paying half his new wage, and Ipswich paying the other half. So that way it costs Ipswich ~ £8-10m or so, that will sting but not as much as £15m.

He'll do ok playing week in week out in a champo side for a couple of years, if they play him as a 10 or false 9 type.

For Akpom see Sarmiento

Whilst I wasn’t lane disappointed when Akpom went to Ipswich I would rather have him than Sarmiento. I can see him going to Birmingham on loan or sold for a few million loss.

Surely we don’t go back in for him. One good season in his career.
Sick of reading that crap about 1 good season. The season after that he scored 14 for Ajax and played European football
