Chuba Akpom

Nobody is guilty for thinking Akpom was shyte, he was,
all our forwards were rubbish, we couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo.
Lenihan, Fry, Jones, Forss have all been given flak over their performance, and rightly so, we were dropping into League one
but here’s hoping Carrick can turn us round to where we should be
up near the top of the table 👍🏻

Makes you think just how many good players have we let slip because they looked poor under our previous poor management

So pleased for him but I just hope we can get him on a new contract asap, would be tough to see this turnaround then see him leave for nothing

Seems like such a nice guy as well, glad it's going well for him.
Yeah, sensible, thoughtful and dare I say humble…..it hardly seems to be true that we are talking about the same striker after him looking bereft of any decent touch, pace, eye for goal….it’s like he was abducted by aliens and given special superpowers and released back to unleash them(!)

I hope he realises what Carrick has done for him and signs a new deal given Carricks utter transformation of him in 4 matches is quite extraordinary

It’s obvious we are heading upwards…..
Be fascinating to see us versus Norwich on Saturday and how we perform given we are clearly full of confidence but up against a skilful outfit. I can see us battering Norwich, not managing to score and getting done by a pukki toe poke in the 75th minute and losing 1-0
Please Boro, be untypical and go there and give us a draw or even a win !

Nothing wrong with that Erimus, people can be proven wrong you know.
Or would you prefer they stubbornly still wrote him off?
Exactly.
I’m one of them along with not being happy with Carricks appointment.
I was clearly wrong and super chuffed to say so….we all love boro at the end of the day and have opinions

99% on here including me had wrote him off as a donkey. Whats happened - the change is mind boggling... confidence I reckon
99% ? Donkey?

Not me….. I’ve been promoting and defending Chuba over his entire stretch with the club.

And so also (I seem to recall) did a few others on here back in the day when hoofing NW was failing miserably at maximizing and utilizing the excellent skillset which Chuba had brought to the club.

I absolutely slated the lad and the clubs decision to spend that kind of money on him at the time.

I'd seen him live at other clubs and sometimes it felt like they were a man down. The odd display of technical ability here and there, which you'd expect coming through Arsenal, but largely ineffective.

As mentioned above, stunning the impact that confidence and self belief can have on a player. If he's made a breakthrough there and can maintain it, which some players do when they hit a certain maturity then he could have a great latter part of his career, hopefully with boro.

Right place, right time. Turning defenders, driving, drawing fouls, bringing others into the game. Proven me wrong and I'm chuffed not just for the boro but for him as well, it must feel excellent to start seeing the dividends from years of dedication as a professional.

Either that or they've re-found the missing ingredient from the long lost recipe for the project Marvin syrup!

Would like to hear Neil Warnock's take on his current exploits 👍👍👍

Also above Gyokeres now in the league ranking.

We were wanting MFC to go out and buy a reliable family car in the summer, but it turns out that there was a Dodge Hellcat sat at the back of the garage.
We thought we had a Reliant Robin under the tarpaulin, but found we have an E-Type Jag:love:

I must admit. Given the performances I’d watched over his time with us, I was reluctant to jump on the Chuba Train earlier in the season.

Absolutely amazed at his turn around. His overall game play has massively improved and whist I still don’t think he’s the greatest finisher, he seems to have a poachers instinct inside the box, which is ideal if Jones and Giles can keep providing the service from wide.

I am officially converted! UTB
The new Paul [poacher] Wilkinson (y)

Surely people must by now be able to see that calling out players as rubbish and getting on their backs is counter-productive? If Carrick has proven one thing, it's that praise is a much more effective performance tool than harsh criticism.

Wish I could say the same, pretty sure I criticised the club for picking a striker completely unsuitable for Warnock's style and there's nothing about his senior career to date that suggested he'd be a consistent goalscorer.

I did though think he'd be more suited to Wilder's style and supported the decision to bring him back into the squad. Remember an argument with someone who insisted he was terrible, would always be terrible and it was a waste of time.

I certainly didn't expect him to have this impact though. I doubt many did. Although he was very highly rated as a youngster, so I think the talent has always been there. The trick, up till now, has been how to unlock it.

His turnaround is incredible, goes to show what a sprinkle of confidence can do to a professional footballer. He’s irreplaceable.
And what professionalism does too. He carried on putting in the effort even when Wilder openly said he didn't want him but had no other choice but to play him.

I like the way he takes the ball under pressure and doesn't allow himself to be knocked off it. Combination of strength and skill, but it buys us time to get other players forwards.

Reminds me a bit of Breel Embolo*

*And yes, how insane would that comparison have sounded before the season started?

His overall play is excellent - puts himself about, holds the ball up well in MF, not afraid to run with the ball and most importantly, he's found the knack of getting on the end of crosses.

I'm really pleased for him!!

Was amazing again last night.

The sheer emotion he let out just in front of us all in the stands was incredible. The referee was trying to tell him to move on and speed up, to get the restart going, but could clearly see how emotional Chuba was after that goal.

Even after the game, the players were pushing him towards the fans to take advantage of all the cheering and chants towards Chuba. I think it was Liam Roberts who shoved him towards the fans when we were chanting his name.

He must be absolutely buzzing with the quick turnaround of form and love he's getting!
