Once Warnock leaves Gibson will , as usual, limit his search to whoever happens to be available at the time, a policy that brought us the delights of Gordon Strachan, Gary Monk and Jonathan Woodgate - all top top managers for us.

When there's a reasonable chance any new manager won't even last a season, I can understand him not wanting to pay compensation fees. There's enough pressure to spend on transfer fees as it is, but shrinking that pot to get a contracted manager might not always pay dividends.

Graeme Jones would be an interesting choice. He had a bit of a disaster at Luton, but he seems to be a brilliant coach and tactician.

Credited with Newcastles upturn in form and Southgate has recruited him for England too.

Graeme Jones was sounded out last summer with a view to coming in next summer after NW final season. He was with England at the time. He was who i was alluding to on another thread a while back when I wouldn’t name names but said he was local-ish (he’s from Gateshead and his wife from Stockton). Obviously things have moved on since then.

This seasons failure has been a stark as his previous success and that must raise some questions, regarding how they came up so short after impressing so much last season.
