Chris Cooke is new Mayor

We spoke to people yesterday that didn't even know an election was going on, and we even leafleted their home days before. You'd be very surprised how many just don't watch the news or look at leaflets.
The alert siren test showed this as well, a lot still had no idea.

80% of the town dont use it and "hate" is an emotive word.
Sorry, but thats not an answer.
I "hate" the way the A66 cuts the town in half - are you going to rip that up?
Have you seen the cycle lane? It's dangerous. I've yet to see an actual cyclist in it but plenty of lads in ballies on scooters or motorbikes. That road is too thin for such a scheme on both sides of the road.

I will actively avoid driving down linthorpe road now because with buses and taxis and that lane it is a nightmare. I'm a cyclist and wouldn't use those lanes. Right idea, wrong implantation.

On the day of the alert, we had family over for Sunday Lunch. I said to the wife that it was going to be crazy with us all receiving alerts during our meal and she asked 'what alert'.

I couldn't believe she hadn't heard or read about it.

Outside the Forbes Buildings, the cycle lane makes the road look like a no entry area for cars.

I know this is a bit off topic but I need to ask Norman, was it "crazy" when you all received the alerts? :D

The bus drivers will be happy as they will now be able to drive down Linthorpe Road without waiting for oncoming traffic at the chicanes!

Lots didn't get turned away because lots didn't even go, because they knew they couldn't vote, it's not possible to count them.
Actually where I live there were queues to vote for the first time in my memory since the Brexit vote - this time people weren't bringing their own pens though to counter a supposed conspiracy theory (they rub out all the pencil crosses).

Because 80% of the town hate it.
Not a good enough answer, if 99% hate it then it’s still not a good enough answer. How much will it cost to replace it? Where will this money come from, yet another increase in council tax? If the new Mayor is desperate to put Linthorpe Road back to its original layout, good luck with all the upheaval it will cause yet again to local businesses.

Great to see Cooke win, iam in favour of the cycle lanes in principle, why would you not use them ? They are much safer.
Not sure why anyone would drive into town down linthorpe Rd anyway. Much easier to use other routes to the car parks.
But iam sure it's helped get chris over the line
