I would guess its to maintain order, as time goes on some people may get more and more desperate, others will lose patience with lock down. That there could be serious fights for testing and vaccines. I hope none of this happens. Obviously if you tell me people they may die if they leave their house you are going to get a reaction when they have to with some people.

I thought it was a strange thing for our chief of staff to even mention in the daily briefing with what's going on. Also the 17000 men/women have other skills not useful at the moment. What skills and what things might they be doing?

He was referring to the security and upkeep of the nuclear deterrent. I'm assuming the other 17,000 he was referring to would be engineer and logistic based.

They're part of the civil support group for Covid-19 so there must be something they thought they could do.
That made me chuckle though.
