Chewing gum while playing footie

Soyuncu chewing away for Leicester. It must be dangerous but I've never heard of anyone actually choking or being injured during a match having played and watched for over 60 years.

Britt is always chewing, him trying to avoid choking maybe explains his performances. Surprised coaches allow it tbh

Cant stand the stuff, or the dirty sods who chuck it on pavements or stick it on the underside of tables on trains.(n)

I remember there was a poster on the wall of the changies at school (Blakeston) of Keegan advertising chewing gum, I'm guessing Wriggley.

Never made me play better, I have to be honest.

Haha, my mother used to say chewing gum would wrap itself round your heart and kill you if you swallowed it

I think many players both professionally and amateur chew it. I'm not sure I've heard of anyone dying. I get why it could be an issue especially if knocked out.

I always have some in at the gym (remember those) or out for a run. Just keeps the old mouth lubricated. I always bin it as it annoys me the amount on pavements.

It is really dangerous. Everyone knows if you swallow chewing gum it winds itself around your heart and you die.

Edit: That's what you get for not reading the full thread. I only saw Red-is-best's post after I'd posted.

Made the mistake of going into a shop the other day chewing gum. Don't, it becomes very unpleasant behind a mask. 🤢

Whenever I’m exercising I’m blowing out of my jacksy, chewing gum would be impossible.

Not choking but when I’ve played with chewing gum I feel like I have too much saliva in my mouth. More uncomfortable than a hindrance l.

A cricketing acquaintance of mine was standing in the slips during a Surrey championship match in the early 2000s, when suddenly his chewing caused an impacted tooth and he had to go to hospital. One of the most bizarre cricketing injuries I've ever heard of, and I've heard of a few.
