The ViP of Mitsubishi said "A comprehensive business review has been undertaken, which explored options including the temporary mothballing of the plants and a complete reinvestment at Cassel as well as a closure option.Like you I know some folk who work at the site and It was announced internally a couple of months ago that due to market conditions once this shutdown is complete that it was to be mothballed .
The review has concluded that in an increasingly competitive global market, continued production of methacrylates at the Cassel Site does not appear to be economically sustainable. A final decision on the proposal for methacrylate operations at Cassel is expected to be made in January following the consultation period."
They would only be mothballing it because it would cost a fortune to decommission and they are kicking that can down the road. The is pretty much no chance it will be recommissioned.
