Chemical works to potentially close

Like you I know some folk who work at the site and It was announced internally a couple of months ago that due to market conditions once this shutdown is complete that it was to be mothballed .
The ViP of Mitsubishi said "A comprehensive business review has been undertaken, which explored options including the temporary mothballing of the plants and a complete reinvestment at Cassel as well as a closure option.

The review has concluded that in an increasingly competitive global market, continued production of methacrylates at the Cassel Site does not appear to be economically sustainable. A final decision on the proposal for methacrylate operations at Cassel is expected to be made in January following the consultation period."

They would only be mothballing it because it would cost a fortune to decommission and they are kicking that can down the road. The is pretty much no chance it will be recommissioned.

I was down there before shutdown on SAR unit last year .We knew then that it would never open again. First time I had heard of a shutdown with no end date also.

Remember when Bunter told the nation that the UK is not dependent on Russian gas, and our strong economy resulting from solid tory fiscal policy would protect us from the worst impact.

Sounds a bit like 40 hospitals, Peppa Pig a £20 kettle, levelling up and build back better.

Anybody buy any of that sht?

They've probably spent 10s of millions on that shutdown
They did. It was something like £48m (from site induction memory) which in time honoured tradition will have probably gone massively over budget.
The company I work for played a major part in the SAR converter replacement - pretty much all stainless steel. What an absolute waste if the rumours are true.

That is correct, we built the new one .Never seen so many interfering people wanting it their way .It was assembled, then re assembled because they didn't like it .Basically paid for a mini but wanted a Rolls Royce.
