Chemical works to potentially close

I worked on that site for 26 years before retiring in 2017.

A sad day indeed if it shuts down.

Hell of a lot of work required to decontaminate the site though!

Me and the missus racking our brains as to the order of ownership, obviously it started ICI and ended Mitsubishi, but who was it in between, I’ve worked on the site and can’t for the life of me remember. You’ll know Gene….

ICI, I think INEOS, then it was Lucite but had a couple of different owners then Mitsubishi. Beat me to it DCI

Very sad news, though it's been on the cards for a while. Workers were warned this was in the offing some time ago. My son-in-law works there.
Is it really due to energy costs or is there more to it. Outdated plant? I remember Monomer 8 was commissioned around 1990?

I've just driven past, noticed a new piece of kit and thought it must be being developed.

More manufacturing being moved abroad.
They have changed the way they make MMA. Cassel is an old HCN plant they make it using formaldehyde these days. Much cheaper and less energy needed.

Like you I know some folk who work at the site and It was announced internally a couple of months ago that due to market conditions once this shutdown is complete that it was to be mothballed .
