Charlie Goode - CB from Northampton

No mart not a joke , London and surrounding area is a big pull , the north east seams like a long way away to a lot of people . Josh Laurent has signed for Reading , he was a product of QPR youth system - gone back to London .
He's from East London though, Reading to East London is a pain, he won't be living near home or even in London and it won't be easily accessible for visiting family. He's spent the last couple of years in Shrewsbury so moving away to the provinces for his career isn't an issue. Reading have been splashing the cash in the last couple of years, that will more than likely have been his motive plus a feeling they are building a decent squad.

I wouldnt overly class Reading or QPR as clubs will significant 'pull' in terms of location.

I would imagine any player from league 1 or 2 would get a life changing deal from any champo side. You would imagine his pay could go up 4-5 fold.

I would imagine coming from a lower league you'd want to know about chances of playing. I guess in the case of this lad you'd think Jepson could 'assist' and big us up.

If we don't get him then we move on

Like every player he will go with who offers the best wage, after that it will be about where he will play more and what the prospects of the club are. all things being equal it then comes down to location.

Put yourself in his shoes, as a 24 year old ambitious young man would you stay in Boro on your current salary or go to Bristol or Norwich and earn a lot more?

Agreed, it's about career prospects and financial prospects for the vast majority of players. I thought we were beyond this 'players don't want to be anywhere but London' stuff. There are loads of southerners who have moved to Boro (or Burnley or Bristol or Wolverhampton) and stayed Friend and Mustoe are two great examples. There are also locals who couldn't wait to move away e.g. Morrison.

A straight swap for Dael Fry!👍 Seriously though although lower league I think his attributes are what we were all expecting of Fry by now but he just seems to have stood still.

Whilst he hasn’t had a standout season by any means he has had Ayala, Friend, Shotton and Howson beside him. He has had 3 different keepers and a midfield trio that I think is pretty poor in front of him. He was also played on the left side of defence and as a right footer that isn’t straightforward. If he stays, with a settled partner and defensive unit I think he will be excellent for us. If he leaves then it is likely to be to a premier team, and that is better than us at the minute.

I agree with all of that. Fans like to go OTT on players as either garbage or too good for us. He is a decent enough defender, with the potential to kick on still

I think so. He is young and playing at championship level at his age as one of the fixtures and fittings is commendable. Even if this is his level he is going to have a decent career.

there are only 4 players his age or younger that are regulars at this level at CB, it's one of those positions where experience is important and he has probably been part of the most broken disjointed defence. I would expect him to kick on next year.

Looks like hes signed for QPR, shame but if we can get Gibson along with Hall and Fry we will be in good shape

I would think in Gibson / Fry and Hall it would be a massive improvement. We could have George as back up.

I guess it depends if we play with 2 or 3 CBs. We probably still need another if we play 3 and more so if George don't sign.

George looked much better than Fry at CB under Warnock.
