Channel Migrants (Admin advisory. Contains disturbing image and repulsive views)

Er, not quite. I suggest you read up your history on the Ottoman Empire and the 1948 Arab-Israeli war as well as the 2nd world war and creation of Israel etc.

There's been a lot of trouble in the middle east WAY before Blair and Labour became involved.

My knowledge may not be as good as yours red but I’m guessing your giving blair the thumbs up because it was already fvck Ed.
Not many people from 1948 on these dinghys

This world belongs to no one, countries and borders are artificial and man made.

The majority of people in this world live in absolute poverty, not the relative poverty we live in.

We need a world where people are kind, considerate and caring for each other, the world is slowly eating it's self through the greed and corruption of a few and i fear before to long, we will all pay the ultimate price.

There is chance to stop this, there is no place in this world for leaders such as Trump, Johnson, Putin and the rest of the dictators who oppress and persecute their own people, enough is enough.

We can make a start by calling things out, challenging others, doing our bit to help and using our cross in the box in the right way, I live in hope but i often despair at how some people think it is acceptable to treat or think of others as less worthy or human then them because of where they are from, the colour of their skin, thier gender, their sexuality or disability.

That’s the human race. A virus killing our own planet.

I am fully supportive of refugees, they have escaped incredible hardship to get out of the hellish situations they have come from. However, there is a very big difference between sailing across the med from the hellish situation to another country and crossing the Channel from France to the UK. They should be claiming asylum where they land, not picking and choosing where they go otherwise are they asylum seekers or just economic migrants?

Table as 07 q (asylum tables, volume 3).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

. Key facts

In the year ending March 2018, there were 14,166 grants of asylum, alternative forms of protection and resettlement, down 11% compared with 15,973 in the previous year. This comprised:

  • 6,865 grants of asylum to main applicants and dependants (down 17%)
  • 1,541 grants of alternative form of protection to main applicants and their dependants (up 16%)
  • 5,760 people provided with protection under a resettlement scheme (down 9%)

Of the 14,166 people granted asylum, protection and resettlement, 5,953 (42%) were children (under 18 years old).

Additionally, 5,874 Family reunion visas were issued to partners and children of those granted asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK, a 2% increase since last year. Of these, 2,883 (49%) were issued to children.

The number of asylum applications in the UK from main applicants decreased by 8% to 26,547 in the year ending March 2018. The fall in asylum applications reflects a return to levels seen before the European migration crisis in 2015. The falls are consistent with what has been seen more widely across Europe, with a decrease of around 41% in applications to EU countries in the last year.

There were 774 grants of asylum or alternative forms of protection to Syrian nationals (including dependants) at initial decision in the year ending March 2018 (down 49%).

A total of 5,760 people were resettled in the UK in the year ending March 2018 under various schemes. This included 4,342 Syrian nationals who were provided protection under the Vulnerable Person Resettlement Scheme (VPRS), bringing the total number of Syrians provided protection to 11,649 since the scheme began in 2014.

Stop the hatred whatever side you take. It is disgusting. I include my own view as such, but accept it is nevertheless, hard to be kind, either way.

The argument can't be they are escaping from war torn countries? They have escaped them and now 'escaping' France.

Europe is a big old place. I imagine if they have got to France then they can go to many European counties.

They are coming here because its 'cushy' and they will be looked after. They won't be sleeping in a tent like France. We have a navy on the south coast (I know I served for 23yrs)

Get them sea dodgers out to sea and provide some deterrent (although not sure what they will do? Probably just taxi them ashore😕)

It's cushy?! Put down the sodding Daily Mail for Christ's sake.

And you know that for a fact do you, or is it just one of the oft-repeated and unsubstantiated clichés trotted out by a lazy mentality.

Hassan Akkad is an example of how the country can benefit from migrants. Perhaps you'd like to read his story.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...creeping-authoritarianism-is-vivid-in-britain

But have no fear, he may not stay now that he has seen how british democracy works in 2020.

>> Why, I wonder, looking back, was he so stubbornly determined to come here and not elsewhere in Europe? He smiles. “I had studied English literature and I thought of London as the centre of democracy and human rights,” he says. “Having lived in a totalitarian country for two decades of my life, I wanted to live somewhere that I could be free.” He watched the film Braveheart 10 times back in Syria; that William Wallace cry of “Freedom!” stayed with him.

He might, he admits now, have been careful what he wished for – to the extent that he is no longer certain he even wants to stay here beyond next year. “For someone from Syria, the creeping authoritarianism is quite vivid here now,” he suggests. “Contracts going to government cronies; politicians breaking the rules and not facing consequences; this delusional democracy where people are lied to, and vote for the liars.” <<

👍🏻 never a truer word said.
Problem is corco that we have a finite amount of land and food and jobs and infrastructure.
We don’t have enough school places for kids now. There’s not enough doctors appointments now. There’s not enough houses now (although I believe there is, they’re just empty).
If everybody who wanted to come here came then that would be the end of this country As we know it almost overnight.
Treat people fairly, yes.
Turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, no.
You can do both

FF - you really need to research the actual facts and not the daily mail. I get you genuinely believe this but you are so wrong, take the time do some unbiased research and you will find.

Great post R.

I don’t read the mail. I used to but it started turning me racist so I stopped. I was literally angry every day.

I’ve read the figures and see that they are going down. Figures also show that channel crossings are going up. That’s what this thread is about although it’s deviated as it usually does.

My points on space, schools, infrastructure are all correct and that is why I firmly believe that immigration must be controlled

Perhaps you should concentrate on a government that makes the rich richer and ignores everyone else.
