Championship Manager 0102

I posted the below info in response to an FM post but I feel it warrants it's own so everyone that played the old game is aware.

1) You can download it for free - perfectly legally as EIDOS gave the copyright up on it. (For those uninitiated, Champ manager is football manager's dad)

2) You can update the database with this seasons players. Most recent update is from October. They are due to release a new database update soon to cover the winter transfer window.

Here are the details, even if one old player gets to enjoy the game again then this post has been worth it :-

The game is free to download and they update the players every transfer window

Thanks for this.

I’d love to but my only PC is a work one and doesn’t allow stuff like this to be downloaded.

I’d say CM is far more than FM’s dad. FM is its little illegitimate son from a seedy affair that has gone on to be a corrupt world leader.

CM was where it started and ended for me.

Not only is 01/02 the perfect balance regarding being in depth enough for us geeks to enjoy whilst still being able to blast through a season quickly, in the original incarnation Boro are seriously overpowered. Southgate, Ehiogu, Ince, Gordon, Ricard, Boksic are all insanely good and even without the "cheat formations" and Maxim Tsigalko signings you can comfortably finish top 4

Great game, and I've wasted countless hours/days/weeks on it. Don't be tempted to look up advice on formations though: there are a couple of tricks you can use to create tactics that are massively over-powered

I cant remember - is this the one where you get training boosts in the first 2 weeks after changing what they are focusing on, which means that you can create the ultimate player simply by changing the training 2 times a month? Or was that a different version.

I certainly played this and some earlier incarnations back in the day.

I found on 01/02 that wide players were just not needed.

I ended up with a sweeper behind 2 centre backs, then a holding mid, 3 centre mids, a number 10 and two strikers. Dominated!

I remember using a 21511 with great success back in the day. I have been unable to replicate the success so maybe it was a different version of CM which that worked on.

Not as good as 97/98

Sign the following and win the league…
Luis Miguel Cavaco
Tommy Svindal Larsen
Niklas Alexanderson

WIB WOB :-)

Is it Smart home compatible ? Can I run a season autonomously and when Boro hit a defined metric, (say promotion or a good cup win in the later stages ) then all my house lights flash like they do in our stadium and my stereo pipes up with Freed from Desire at far too loud a volume ?

Yeah, there's a patch for that
