Championship games today.

Doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to have results go our way to keep the gap bigger between us and the teams below, however far off 7th we are, we're talking the difference between being secure and even more secure.

Looking like luton, milwall , boro defo in playoffs. Fight for 6th is exciting. Looks like coventry have the easier fixtures.

Sheff utd are awful anti football its a mystery to me how they are above us. Two things for sure heckingbottom wont last till christmas and they will get relegated next season
They are above us because we didn't have Michael Carrick at the start of the Season.

Have you seen their fixtures? I see them dropping out. Theyve got to squeeze 2 more games in also. They'll be knackered.
One of those games is later this evening so it's really just one more game to play. They are hard fixtures though - Hull, Coventry, Preston, Burnley, Luton and Millwall.

What would be the best result in the Blackburn/Hull game later on? Presumably a draw. We don't want Blackburn to get three points but we don't want a confidence boosting away win for Hull either because we have to play them on Wednesday.
Blackburn win for me, I’d prefer them in the play offs

The good thing for us is that we know our best is better than any other side in this league bar Burnley.

As long as we turn up and play to our best then we get promoted and there's nothing that any other side can do about it.

Obviously easier said than done but it does give us an edge.

Milwalls fixtures look easy enough to win at least 2 more. Ill stick my neck out now and say we will play them in the 2 legged playoff semi final.

Tonight Blackburn have to beat Hull as their last 5 fixtures are Coventry 6th (H), Preston 8th (A), Burnley 1st (H), Luton 3rd (H) and Millwall 5th (A). They are playing the playoffs before the playoffs!

I think, barring anymore serious injuries, we will want to prove we are the third best team in the League. I can see us winning our last four, including winning at Luton. (y)

Am I right in thinking that if we beat Hull, the only team outside the top 6 who can feasibly overtake us are West Brom? They can get a maximum of 75 points, Coventry and Preston 74 and we have the far superior goal difference than both of those. So effectively a win Wednesday and we're in the playoffs.

We really don't want Sunderland in the play offs - they are actually a world class side incorrectly languishing in championship mid table. They have amazing young players that are the envy of clubs round the world. Ross Stewart is a mixture of Haaland and Mappe and with him fit they would dominated the league and probably won the FA Cup.

Oh and they don't care about Boro.

The most deluded set of fans in this country.

I would say you are correct due to Millwall Blackburn Coventry all playing each other. Take out WBA as perhaps being 5th, then I can’t see how 2 of the 3 above can hit 75 points, which with your goal difference is what they would need.

I could be wrong though, but for me 74 with a plus 28 GD is uncatchable.

There may be a way ?

9 point gap on 7th.

If West Brom beat Sheffield United in their game in hand, it's 8 points.

We're on 71 points right now, the max we can achieved is 83 points.

Current points and maximum totals possible:

Blackburn - 63 points, max of 78 points
Millwall - 65, max of 77.
West Brom - 60, max of 75.
Coventry - 62, max of 74.
Preston - 62, max of 74.
Sunderland - 61, max of 73.
Norwich- 61, max of 73.

Blackburn play Coventry on Wednesday, so one of them is dropping points.
If Blackburn win, Coventry can't catch us (bar a huge goal swing and 4 straight Boro defeats).

Blackburn then play Preston, who can't catch us unless they get 10 points from 12.
They also play Luton and Millwall.

West Brom play Sunderland and Norwich, so whatever those results, it ensures at least one of them can't catch us.

Sunderland also play Preston, so that's another guarantee that one of them can't catch us.

Because of all the head to head fixtures, it basically means that we're already in the play-offs.

For most of the teams outside of the play-offs to make it, it would see Blackburn dropping out before us.
Most of them will also knock another chaser out of contention along the way.

Regardless of results elsewhere though, 4 points from the final 12 available would mathematically guarantee us a play-off spot.
3 would realistically do so because of the goal difference.

Thats the way I see it too, we are virtually guaranteed a spot, but we need the points to secure 3rd or 4th place.

I still fancy Blackburn to get the last place, I think they're the best of the teams fighting for 6th, but it's still very tight and there will be some surprising results still for sure.
