Ceramic coating a car

Seriously considered it, but came to the conclusion that whilst its effective its also very expensive and obviously isn't permanent.

It depends on the quality of your paint too and may require a polish/recondition, so really a decent wax will (almost) do the same thing at a fraction of the cost.

I do apologise, been doing too many word association threads on here. As soon as I saw 'ceramic' I could only think of the tiles on the outside of the space shuttle. Pray continue :censored:
Ridiculous post, the space shuttle was actually covered with LI-900 silica tiles, made from essentially very pure quartz sand. The insulation prevented heat transfer to the underlying orbiter aluminum skin and structure. These tiles were such poor heat conductors that one could hold one by the edges while it was still red hot.

Please check your facts in future.

Made me smile, a light quip.
Not sure of how they ceramic coat it ?, but wont it add weight and the paint would be then difficult to feather out should you need to touch it up... chipping would be a major problem.

Now I realise why I stopped coming on here, why do people have to give stupid remarks

Interesting fact as to why Mercedes race in silver colours: back in the day paint was lead based, so very heavy. To reduce the weight of the car to increase speed, they just didn't paint it and left it 'au naturel'

Funny thread, I have done nano stuff on my car and it keeps it clean but if you apply it wrong it's a b***r to clean up. I can not remember if it was a ceramic coating or something else. Oh it also works on glass so you barely need wipers

ceramic coating sounds like a way to spend a load of cash on your car, in a way to make it worth less when you come to sell it. Who would touch a second hand car that someone else had ceramic coated?

I’m afraid I’ve never heard of doing that let alone had it done so I’m afraid I can’t help you. I am, however, intrigued by what it entails and achieves.

They still do this in cycling, where you'll often see bikes left unpainted to save weight.

im guessing the cutting jibe has scared the poor fella off...

i was gonna ask for after pictures, all im thinking is it will look like a bath when completed and they chipped verry easy if i remember right?

i wonder where he normally goes to ask car related questions, may be a car forum? bet theyre much better behaved... :D
