Cavendish signs for DQS

Does he have one more good season and another grand tour stage win in him? Or have the injuries and illness taken their toll?

Like a former ballon d'Or winner signing for Man Utd - he's not going to get a chance in any meaningful race and is there purely on name (and relationship to Holm and Lefevere only).

I say this as a massive Cavendish fan, but he needs to face the fact he's not the rider he was and there's far younger, better sprinters out there now. He's a "one tick pony" (an amazing one tick that he had over the years) but he's not going to win any of the classics (even MSR) and he's not going to be taken to the GT's as he's a luxury that they cant afford there.

So why do you think they signed him up? Big name, media?

Because he's mates with the management (Holm was the best man at his wedding for example) and he's still a name. Also I'm led to believe that he's excellent in terms of team spirit, professionalism and coaching the younger riders.

He's someone who strives for excellence in everything he does, and I personally think he'll bring a lot to the team, it's just not in the sprints of the big races that he'll do that unfortunately.

BTW, this seems very negative, it's not - I think Cav is probably the most talented rider of the last few years, and love his personality far more than someone like Froome or Thomas.

I'd love him to be successful and win stages in the GT's or even a classic, but I just can't see it.

No doubt about the first bit
But, I reckon he knows he’s not the rider he was - don’t you?

I badly hope there is one last hurrah somewhere but can’t see it.
