Cattermole and Agnew?

I couldnt get angry with Lee Catermole, but I can get angry with Steve Gibson - who apparently has business acumen and leadership qualities - but if this is true, then hes losing the plot.
The club bossed Southgate because he was naive as a Manager.
It will be the same for Catts.
Even a Manager with experience of the rough and tumble in leagues 3 an 4 stands a better chance.
How can Lee be expected to manage players at senior level and gain their respect.
This could be a complete disaster.
Hope someone is pulling our ******
I really hope Im shown up - and a decent Gaffa is appointed.

Why are people so keen to promote academy players, yet so adverse to promoting academy coaches??? Not advocating it, just wondering why there seems to be such polar opposites on peoples thought process.
Good players don’t necessarily make good coaches.. but no one would have battered an eyelid if it was Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney or Terry making the transition into management.

Garry Monk was around the same age as Lee Cattermole when he started at Swansea, talk of him being a trouble causer in his younger days.. well Joey Barton caused more trouble when he was much older and he appears to be doing well.

Imagine that a case for Lee Cattermole including Garry Monk and Joey Barton as examples why it might not be such a bad idea.

Gary O’Neil is doing ok at Bournemouth.. I think I’d have our youngest ever captain at the helm before pea heart nipping out of matches for a round of golf.

Jonathan Woodgate did deserve his chance and long term he has made the club a lot of money.. one of the most profitable tenures of any manager.

Lee Cattermole seemed very switched on and motivated for management playing in the Netherlands.. refreshing.

If he wasn’t one of our own would folks be less hesitant? We need to start getting behind our own.. as much as these more exotic names being mentioned lend themselves more to a fantasy of supreme success.. having an academy player move into management is a success all of its own.

Whilst he wouldn’t be my first choice.. I will back Lee Cattermole 100%

Why not? What have we got to lose?

Er, getting relegated to League 1 for a start?
Attendances going through the floor as swathes of people lose interest?
Season tickets renewals then going through the floor for the same reason?

Can’t wait to see how some will jump in and defend Gibson after this
Agnew was part of our most successful management teams in recent years. He stepped in when we imploded in the premier league and put his own reputation on the line.

A trusted and experienced number two.

I could see this happening and I’m sure most folks thought of an Agnew connection when Steve Bruce got the boot from West Brom.

Trust is a big thing in this game, Wilder has left us in a dreadful position which makes us a less attractive option for a new manager to come in an prove his worth/make his name.

2ppg to get anywhere near the playoffs with a squad that has only shown half of that. That’s some magic wand to wave.. an interim set up until January perhaps? A deal to the end of the season with the only objective is Championship survival!,

We’ve got another big rebuild coming in the summer.. interesting to see where we are in January!!
We don't necessarily have a big rebuild coming. If the Model is now that the DOF and the Recruitment team source the players and we just have a Head Coach then we just continue with that whoever the next Head Coach is. The squad we have is not that bad it just needs strengthening in certain positions notably midfield it doesn't need a complete overhaul.

The problem was that Wilder was not obviously not onboard with the Model and chose to ignore players that had been brought in like Forrs and especially Hoppe.

Trusted mainly by Steve Bruce. And sacked just as regularly

We’re risking relegation right now. Lee Cattermole has been the man to lead his club away from relegation numerous occasions.

11 games remained in the Premiership when Karanka was packed - off.
Staying up was a real possibility.
He didnt make it.

We have no midfield and 4 loan players in our starting 11. Assuming we don't lose any other players that means we need to sign 6 first team players.

The concern I now have is that following Wilder, Gibson will over-prioritise the importance of the next manager being a yes man.

He probably feels he could trust Cattermole and Agnew to be yes men and work in a way which aligns with the clubs ethos, but we're not currently in a position to be able to take such a monumental risk.

Yes, all managerial appointments are risks but some risks are far greater than others, and appointing Cattermole as head coach is arguably the riskiest appointment out of all the names we've been linked with.

Our well - paid players better buy into this.
I hope they are all worried - including those on good contracts.
They dont have to be played and if they dont get on board they can rot in the reserves.
Players like Anfernee and Jones, who`ve not experienced this before, will be wondering what the hell is happening.

Sincerely,

Baffled:unsure:
