Cash in hand delivering £60-£100 a night 4 hours

Not getting involved in the morals of cash in hand.

However you must have business cover on your car insurance, I know some people locally that have been caught out.
I wouldn't count on this giving you the right cover. Adding cover for business in addition to the regular 'social, domestic, pleasure and commuting' is predominantly for workers who travel between multiple offices.

I worked for a big private car insurer before I left the UK and we didn't cover for delivering take-aways for profit. I would recommend anyone thinking of doing this to check you have the right cover.

Who's paying the £100 to £150 or is it part pay part tips?

Some take aways near where I live have volunteer drivers. I was told it's because they make a lot in tips.

Cheers for the feedback - I was checking with my guesses so £150 would be done easily in 4 hours. I have never delivered takeaways, but interested in the economics.

Randy - when you say we, is that 2 people, because that would half the hourly rate per person.

If you are running a takeaway it looks like you have to budget 25% for transport and I would estimate another 10% to 15% to agents like Just Eats.

One in the kitchen plus one driver plus meals outside. That's only delivering in our village mind.

I'd say we could easily do 100 takeouts in an hour if the custom was there.

Just Eat take 14% of any order plus a 50p service charge. We don't use Just Eat, we use the good old fashioned telephone, our website and Facebook.

£150 a night for 4 hours work seems pretty good to me. 5 nights a week circa £39k a year to deliver takeaways. Am I missing something? Probably my maths.

Can't be good for the car all the stopping and starting when delivering.

My next door neighbours get takeaways delivered 4 or 5 times a week, there's regularly a 16 reg BMW delivering stuff, doing that regularly can't be doing the engine much good.

SE4 - I think this is Saturday night - weekday nights I guess would be only 50% so maybe £20k a year is more realistic less your car costs. I guess its sort of like driving a taxi. Unsocial hours too say 6pm to 10pm.

Could any of us, hand on heart, say that when we've handed money over to a joiner or a plasterer or an electrician or a painter & decorator we've known for certain he was going to declare the income for tax purposes?

Live and let live.
I always make a point of tipping in cash and, with the fact that I'm earning and hospitality is still playing catch-up, I'm tipping more than I would have done pre-covid. The IRS here assume a percentage for tips and I'm sure that what I tip over that is not declared. I'm not the only one doing this and I think they deserve it.

I know it's already been mentioned, but if anyone is considering this then please ensure you have the relevant cover.
My son once considered doing this, but the cost of the insurance was sky high

Personally, I would not risk the chance of invalidating my insurance, and points on my licence.

The takeaway in this instance is an employer, and has a duty to check insurance documents. But I bet they don't.

Its no wonder working people think there's nothing wrong with the escapades of this government when they are happy to take £150 a day for working and not pay tax on it. If we can be on the fiddle why shouldn't Alexander de Pfefffffel be.
At least the moneys not going to some greasy little foreigner.

Not that I agree with what he said but don't think he's doing that.

He's basically saying people who are fine with this course of action are fine with how the government has been behaving with their dodgy contracts. That makes you a Tory. And if you're a Tory you're probably a racist Brexiteer. Therefore you are OK with English people doing cash in hand jobs like that because the most important thing is that foreigners aren't getting paid instead.

Are you on glue?

When I was working 9 to 5 in paid employment I never got tipped once. Neither did I have the opportunity to decide how much tax I would pay.
