Cases and deaths down for a few days now...

Wasn’t the answer last time though was it? Just gave us a month of half price burgers and what not, then straight back into mass panic. Seems that it did nothing more than kick the can down the road a bit. Admittedly probably necessary at the time however.

Nationwide lock down seemed to have a positive effect on transmission, I understand it's economically damaging, but if we did it again with appropriate financial support for those that need it, wouldn't that be most effective? If we don't want to kick the can down the road we have to pick the can up. No EOTHO nonsense, no students at uni, no go back to work if you can work from home, no fannying about.

I'm not a parent so I'll never fully understand the importance of social interaction for kids of any age, but if we don't have a short sharp shock, this will last forever. That surely is more damaging

A short term lock down has to be the answer doesn't it? I mean a national one though, this whack-a-mole strategy just seems to shift the problem, rather than solve it
Sadly I think we are too late. When Sage recommended it it probably would have made a significant difference. My fear is the virus is now sp well spread, I small lockdown will just give us a pause before it flares up again. Although it should help ease our over burdened ICU beds

Hasn’t it been the story from the start, the government fannying about, still doing it now with half hearted measures, the amount of lives lost and hospitalisations, obviously deemed as acceptable collateral damage, no wonder people aren’t taking them seriously and just ignoring lockdowns.

Wasn't the first one supposed to be short term though? 3 weeks?

It all depends on outlook I guess. Personally I don’t even think “Lockdown 2” is pragmatically achievable for the reasons outlined above, the fear just isn’t there anymore for the majority of folk. So we could continue to decimate our economy whilst not even slowing the spread very much. We certainly can’t stay locked down until the virus has gone completely.

This is exactly the scenario we have now, nothing will change without a full lockdown.

It might not you know
Some statisticians were predicting the same pattern if we left things as they are.

For sure - that is exactly what Johnson and others will claim.
It could just be coincidence,
Finny that is an alternative interpretation and it does stand up to scrutiny I hope it's right I just don't believe it at the moment.

Don’t those graphs start falling before we enacted the new lockdown measures? Or am I being daft. I thought it was all On a couple of week lag too.

And I fear that another “full lockdown” simply wouldn’t be complied with.
These tiered lock downs are certainly not being complied with, I just think a full lockdown may encourage some additional compliance and limit the areas of cross contamination, with all but essential establishments closed. The non compliance may actually force the issue anyway.

Or just wait a while, even allowing for lag all the regions are showing a plateau into a fall

It all depends whether the government decide to follow their own rules I guess. No one should underestimate how monumental a **** up that Cummings thing was.
