Cases and deaths down for a few days now...

Exactly. As I've explained before, seasonal viruses such as this have a very clear pattern and interventions do nothing. Distancing etc seems to make logical sense but when the cold hard data is plotted it just doesn't matter.

Restrictions are simply not about public health anymore. The things I see happening now I would have thought were completely crazy conspiracy theories until recently.
Like what?

It definitely feels like a dystopia movie at times. Though I’m no conspiracy theorist.

Erm, no, what I'm saying is restrictions have been put in place in these cities and the cases have dropped. So that would suggest the restrictions worked

Doesn't it just.

I will just sound like a nut so I'll simply say the reality is not what is being projected. Johnson and Vallance on about huge case rises, spiraling infections. It obviously isn't true from the data and people I know in the hospitals. I don't know why.

There is a lot to by cynical about. I am extremely uncomfortable with the fact that laws are being made at the drop of a hat, about otherwise totally innocent events and only in certain areas, and the fact that every few weeks I have to put my three old through the trauma of a test swab rammed up his nose every time he gets a temperature. Not because I think he might have covid19, because kids rarely show symptoms anyway, but because I’m worried what people will think if I don’t (and they find out) and think I’m an irresponsible member of society, because the government say I should do that.

As I say, I’m no conspiracy theorist but there is a lot to be uncomfortable with at the moment. But then part of the problem, I suppose, is that as society we have scared ourselves about this kind of thing for so long (movies, books etc) that now it’s actually happening its hard not to imagine the worst case. Be it biological and/or political.

It's political/social.

It's political/social.
That may be so. But I don’t believe it’s been planned out by some evil anonymous figure, or even a known leader. I think it’s just something that’s emerged on a day by day basis. I do consider, though, that the hive mind is now so panicked and fearful that it will never be able to dig itself out of this particular hole.

the first lockdown literally had an immediate impact

That fits in with low excess deaths in Q1 and no flu epidemic. Didn't take long for it to be close to being overwhelmed with thousands of admissions a day. And huge numbers of health professionals looking after ICU patients meant it wasn't the beds that were necessarily overwhelmed.

But even without COVID the NHS has been overwhelmed around Christmas time for the last few years (patients in the corridors etc). There is so little spare capacity in the system anything out of the ordinary will overwhelm it. I don’t think this is anybody’s fault, you can’t just have limitless capacity, but I suspect the NHS had been stretched to breaking point by the Tories well before COVID 19 appeared and they know it which is why we now have this full on charm offensive to ‘protect the NHS’.

People need to open their eyes....

Manchester (which the government wants to impose more restrictions on!). Burnham just needs to stand up to them with data.

Propaganda from the UK's chief scientific advisor (rising infections, exponential growth, critical point) is disturbing and sinister. It is no longer a public health issue.

I don't know where things are heading but it is not good.
Those individual area case graphs looks interesting tad

Very likely St, we can hope that that particular trend begins to show in other areas, it would give some hope for the winter.

Yeah. They show the benefit of a lockdown. At least shoot term

A short term lock down has to be the answer doesn't it? I mean a national one though, this whack-a-mole strategy just seems to shift the problem, rather than solve it

Wasn’t the answer last time though was it? Just gave us a month of half price burgers and what not, then straight back into mass panic. Seems that it did nothing more than kick the can down the road a bit. Admittedly probably necessary at the time however.

So we are in a tier 2 lockdown in Tees Valley but looking at my street, you certainly wouldn’t think it, the amount of visitors to people’s houses, you would think life had reverted to a degree of normality, is it apathy, people just sick of the whole thing or people no longer thinking Covid is life threatening virus??? Are the rules being ignored in your area?

I think most people aren’t afraid anymore, the average age of death from the virus is 82. Obviously some people die but I think people are just getting used to the idea of living with it and taking risks. Never seeing your loved ones is never going to be very easy for very long.

I wonder if Maddo and Mark Drury are in some sort of Social Bubble, the inference being they would be travelling down to Bristol together?
