Carrick's tactics

I’ve said for a while we have the players to switch to a wing back formation now, with Bangura and Jones on the flanks. It’s not my favourite set up if I’m honest but if it’s works for us 👍🏻 i think it would possibly cure our defensive frailties too. A midfield three of McGree Hackney O’Brien is mouthwatering, at this level at least - throw in Azaz behind a good forward an we really could be cooking

I think the formation was kind of forced on to Carrick due to availability... But it looked second nature, credit to the coaching for that.
We switched it up when attacking / defending...
With Rogers and Greenwood unavailable on Tuesday, we may need it again to find a balance.

Clarke was a rock today and Glover immense

Concentrate on the plan Tuesday, execute it well and we can definitely take something to Stamford Bridge...

One thing I really love about this squad and Carrick, is it feels like the squad love him too and love playing for him, and I feel like we haven't really had that totally harmony and cohesion in ages. I think Woodgate tried to build it but I don't know that there was the belief in him as a manager. With Carrick I feel like the players would run through walls for him, and it makes me think of Akpom last season in a post-match interview saying Carrick's the manager he's dreamed of his whole career.

Good practice for Chelsea and Millwall, get the lads to know their jobs! It was telling how much it meant to Villa.

Riiiight, and then Akpom left? 🤔🤔🤔

It’s the first time under Carrick that we’ve completely changed the game plan (deliberately surrendered territory and totally different trapping zones) yet we kept the principles the same, still playing from the back and inviting the press.

It did make me think if this is what it’ll be like if we got to the Prem, it wouldn’t be half as entertaining as games are in the championship

If we got to Premier league we would hopefully sign higher calibre of player for Carrick to work with. That's the difference

I know, it was just a thought, more about how we can play such entertaining, good to watch football at the minute and I’d be gutted if that had to change as we’ve not played this way in a LONG time
