Carrick's "Managing your emotions" comment

I don’t think it’s pressure I genuinely think that Swansea performance took a lot out of us.

We looked jaded and leggy all this high tempo stuff takes it’s toll.
Yep i thought a few looked really tired. Howson, Archer, and Ramsey especially as the game progressed. Giles also and even Akpom a little, his touch was just slightly off 2nd half.
Hopefully they can recover for saturday.

yeah I thought it was aimed at the fans. there was a point where the crowd was booing and I think aimed at the ref rather than the players but it might have appeared the other way.

has to be careful though, some people hold grudges about comments like that
this 100% I think last night we saw and heard something less than perfection from the golden child unicorn of a manager.

How does he deal with the black arts, how do you counter down and dirty?
How does he deal with criticism from the fans aimed at the referee or the linesman?

A mate of mine who works and travels with the team was back in the pub with a pint in Teesside at 9:15pm, taking mick out of me for being sat on the train still coming through the midlands!

No excuses about tiredness for me.. we just got outfought and outran. Can’t afford anymore duff games. We need wins.
bollox

Haha bollox? What do you mean bollox? They flew down on Friday and flew home straight after the game.

I was sending him photos of my cans on the train home from the match and he was home with a beer in the pub saying unlucky,

Believe what you want mate. Why on earth you think I'd make that up I don't know.

I think he was talking about the players. It's possible to try too hard. I think Carrick is trying to instill (largely successfully) a one game at a time mentality, with a focus on enjoying it.

I think the players took their eye off the ball and probably got ahead of themselves a bit. A bit too desperate to win, trying to force things too much. Understandable given the circumstances.

People are reading far to much into this, we literally underperformed overall, sloppy, passing was off, press wasnt good enough.

Stoke on the other hand pressed us hard, where aggressive, some good bits of play l, unlucky not to win, it happens, we move on, we took a point, which is better than none!

Re grouop and on to Saturday UTB

Our fans last night were very poor. Even before half time there were plenty of moans and groans.

I couldn't believe my ears.

We're 3rd in the table FFS.

Some of our fans really do need a reality check.

We've literally just won 7 home games on the bounce.

We won't win every game. We're not Man City FFS.
Totally agree Marv, 3 and a half months under new stewardship, and the sniping has started after one difficult home match. We are Boro, not Real Madrid, some people as you say, do need a reality check. Walking back to the car, the mood was as if we had lost the game. Get a grip! Win on Saturday and this draw will soon fade to the annals of time.

I didn't hear that mucvh grumbling to be honest, just sighs of frustration. I thought it was strangely subdued from the start yesterday though, even when we scored.
It was a poor turnout from us to be honest. A few season ticket holders who sit near me weren't there and probably chose to watch it on TV.

I don't get it personally. We're chasing automatic promotion and could have gone 1 point behind Sheff Utd with a win last night.

I was there last night.
My 86 year old SC Dad watched on telly in Richmond, as did my 79 year old uncle near Thirsk, and my son in Leeds had work commitments making it tight.

It was freezing, snow falling and laying away from Teesside.
If SC holders did not go:
1. They had paid to go.
2. May have given tickets away to others.
3. May have a hundred reasons why they couldn't make it.

There were c3k fewer matchday tickets, perhaps because 2 home matches in 4 days is extremely expensive at MFC under the current matchday pricing and because it was live on Sky TV.

Stop having a go at a crowd of 24,779 on a midweek night as foul as that, when televised live, with another home game in 4 days.

Fair enough, I can understand your relatives choosing to stay at home and watch it given their ages.

I still think back to the game against Spurs last season though, which was a sell-out. The fact it was a midweek game and on TV didn't put people off, and I dare say the weather conditions wouldn't have put people off attending if it had have been similar conditions to last night (again, not including your elderly relatives in that).

It was a massive game last night. We should have had more there and the stadium should have been bouncing.

Not going to fall out with you parmoboy, a smashing poster.
I just think the crowd turned up more than the players last night.

It's not fair to compare Stoke with Spurs, one a bread and butter league game against mid table opposition, the other a chance to see Kane, Son etc., stars of football. Kids will have been pestering their parents to see that, and why not.

That was a good crowd last night.

Bigger midweek crowd than we're used to if anything.

It was freezing by the end, I had not worn enough layers.

Reading under Karanka had less, and that was when we were in the driving seat.

We're playing some of the best football I've seen a Boro team play at the Riverside and we're in with a shout of automatic promotion.

I wasn't expecting last night's game to be a sell-out, but I was still expecting for there to be a few more inside the stadium.

We were lucky to end up with a point last night. Stoke looked good. They were very physical and most were massively built, with the exception of Gayle. They were so fit as well and really got in our faces closing us down so very fast. They had a plan and stuck to it and credit to them it worked.

They reminded me of being a mix of Leeds and Wimbledon. The Leeds team under Bielsa, as far as being very fit and energetic, and Wimbledon with their dirty, physical, cynical approach.

The pitch suited their style of play more than ours, driving over dancing. Some of our more experienced players sprung into muscle memory and dealt with it as necessary.

Steve McLaren was spot on when he talked about our fans needing educating and if Carrick was referring to our fans he's right as well.

We're in great form and the fans need to calm down when we're not winning after 60 minutes, I've actually seen home games this season where we're getting edgy after about 20 minutes if the team aren't winning.

As someone said above some of our fans are totally dismissive of other teams and think we should be rolling everyone over. I read this board in disbelief earlier in the week where people were saying things like it was going to be a comfortable win against Stoke and talking about WHEN we get promoted.

And I haven't even got to a rant about the constant shouts in the ground to "get it long" 🤦‍♂️😂
