Carrick's "Managing your emotions" comment

Not when you analyse the opposition….1 point gained for sure

They are 14th. Distinctly average in the division. We were at home, and are in the crunch end of a promotion race.

I’m disappointed we didn’t show up, play well and win. Guess you can’t win them all, but not winning at home when you’re 3rd against a team below the halfway mark in the league is dropped points to me.

Agreed - A big horrible ugly, dirty team like Stoke, needed a big physical presence to give them a bit back and rough them up a bit.

The likes of Ramsey, McGree, Archer and to a lesser extent Akpom were getting kicked and shoved all over the shop. Crooksy would have bounced off a few of their lads I feel.
But they all still stood up to the challenge and we took a point.

Expectation is high and I understand that due to how we have been playing but we need a little perspective we cant roll every team over and tonight was just not our night.

Stoke should of won the game but we showed resiliance and gained a point. Fans now need ro respect teams in the championship more and get behind the team its not going to be plain sailing till the end of the season.

We have done exceptional to put orselves where we are and we still have a lot to play for.

I agree tonight was a game for crooks too, maybe Jones would of come into his own tonight as we lacked width which we really needed, to open the game up.

Also though Acher was isolated and whilst he didnt have much to feed off he didnt do much, where as maybe a Muniz who likes a bit of a battle could of held the ball up a bit better.

The players have been superb and last night showed that players do need resting not dropped as the championship is very hectic.

Bad day at the office, credit to stoke we go again!

Wouldn't be surprised at all if it was aimed at us.

Definitely played my part in tense shouting in the second half.

More so because we kept losing the ball with wayward passes than anything else.

Being at home is worse for Boro IMO, some fans are dismissive of every opponent like we have a right to just turn up and win

You have to be on your game 100% to win any game and we wernt, league position means nothing.

Every team in the promotion race will drop points from now till the end of the season, remember we have had to make up substantial ground to be in the position we are in as we were 4th Bottom when carrick took over, we have been on an excellent run and two losses would see us virtually outside the play off places everyone is performing, its going to be great till the end of the season, as said soke where the better team, they nullified our game plan we then played safe in a congested area, we gained a point.

We will learn a lot the player will come out firing we go again!

I thought Alex Neale simply out managed us last night. He set his team up perfectly to counter us. He made sure the midfield was constantly harried and harassed. Pearson was a tough ugly no nonsense midfielder who kicked everything in front of him and got away with a lot of fouls before his yellow. They perfectly choked the life out of Giles and their cross field passes over both our full backs as they tried to advance exposed us. All over the pitch they simply never let us settle on the ball at all and under such pressure we buckled and our passing game was miles off. I also thought we lacked a bit of leadership on the pitch - someone to get them into a huddle and blast them. If you compare the 11 v 11 we are the stronger team but tactically they did a job on us tonight and should have won by a couple of clear goals. That they didn’t is the big plus we take out of last night but many managers would have have watched that last night and learned how to blunt us. Let’s just hope they are not as well coached as Stoke and Carrick and his team study and react to what went on tonight. It’s a blip, like Sunderland and WBA away and we trust Carrick to get us bouncing back on Saturday. UTB

Theres more of a need to beat Burnley at home now. A big 2 points dropped last night
Disagree it's two dropped, definitely a point gained. Play poorly against a team in form who are better than their position in the table suggests and we still take something.

Also, I always remember Karanka in our promotion run in saying that Mourinho always said that when it gets to the business end of the season one point gained is like three points. That is what pressure can do to teams. There's going to be loads more twists and turns and some unexpected results between now and the end of the season so we'd all better strap ourselves in.

They are a much better side though than 14th, they brought in a load of players in Jan didn't they? I guess a league table since Jan would have stoke a bit higher than 14th?

If I was a stoke fan I'd be a bit gutted about basically wasting all these loan players as I think they are too far off the playoffs, maybe they have agreement to have them back next season as well?

Our fans last night were very poor. Even before half time there were plenty of moans and groans.

I couldn't believe my ears.

We're 3rd in the table FFS.

Some of our fans really do need a reality check.

We've literally just won 7 home games on the bounce.

We won't win every game. We're not Man City FFS.

They both seem absolutely gutted about drawing.

They should be gutted, I’m gutted, we’re trying to get automatic promotion, there’s under 10 games to go and we’ve just dropped crucial points at home to 14th in the league.

The wins to get the points needed to get 2nd are going to have to come from somewhere, as I said games are running out..more of an importance and need now to go and win at Luton and beat Burnley and Norwich.

I’m glad they’re disappointed like that.. it shows me they want it bad. Winners aren’t happy when they don’t win. They won’t be celebrating it as a point gained.

The context you're missing though is that Stoke have been building confidence and belief in the previous 4-6 games which hasn't gone unnoticed by me and I said before last nights game this would be dangerous.
Having watched it - you need to remember stoke played at home on Friday night (in bed by 11pm ish) and had a significant amount of extra recovery time versus boro's away game to Swansea on Saturday tea time meaning we probably arrived home well after 12 midnight then players have to drive home (?)
I believe this extra recovery time made a difference to them looking sharper and added to that their in-form (or coming into form at a specific moment) and they still couldn't defeat us.
A lot to learn from that last night but stoke definitely had an advantage and it probably contributed to our game being just not quite there as normal and theirs being very sharp with more zip & energy....

Definitely a message to the team. Their heads were all over the place last night. Pressure telling on some of them perhaps
I don’t think it’s pressure I genuinely think that Swansea performance took a lot out of us.

We looked jaded and leggy all this high tempo stuff takes it’s toll.

A mate of mine who works and travels with the team was back in the pub with a pint in Teesside at 9:15pm, taking mick out of me for being sat on the train still coming through the midlands!

No excuses about tiredness for me.. we just got outfought and outran. Can’t afford anymore duff games. We need wins.

Interesting that Carrick said in his post-match interview that it's about everybody inside of the stadium managing their emotions during the game.

I couldn't help but wonder whether he was referring to the fans who were becoming frustrated at times, especially towards the end of the game when we were still trying to play it out from the back and I think the fans were calling for a bit more urgency from the team.

I think it was one of those nights where he's probably thought to himself that the most important thing was not losing the game.
I didn't hear that mucvh grumbling to be honest, just sighs of frustration. I thought it was strangely subdued from the start yesterday though, even when we scored.
