Carricks first window - All positive transfers

Sat like many watching the yellow ticker yesterday I was really pleasantly surprised and excited by what business we have done in carricks first window.

I was sorry to see dunc but it’s understandable for two reasons he rightly wants first team football but his fitness limits him in minutes he can play. But great to see his leaving message and I like everyone else wishes him the best of luck at the new den, he’s a special player and a great lad and millwall have got themselves a player.

As for us what can say but wow three quality additions and they are all positive and they are all capable ( fitness permitting) of starting games and having a real impact this season.

All technically very good, good on the ball and all have an eye for goal and are creative for others.

So all in all I think it’s been a great window, im happy to see muniz stay as well as now we have cover as well and I think carrick will make use of him in this run in. Good experience for hoppe to see how good he is in a competitive league.

Great as well to see that we kept key fringe players as well like McNair djiksteel and bola etc but especially jones ( who k was worried about) as we will need options and cover going into the stretch

Roll on sat and the new look boro attack - - come on boro

First window for quite a while where I wasn't particularly bothered if we didn't get a few late panic signings in. Even Ramsay was a bonus - was happy with Barlaser and Archer.

👍

Totally agree with OP. A calm and measured transfer window, giving the right depth and quality to the squad in the right areas. I'm looking forward to seeing them all. I think Ramsey has come in as backup to Chuba. He had a great loan at Norwich before injury. I hope Duncan Whatmore has secured a minimum of 2 year contract. He deserves it and is a classy person.

Happy with the players we got in. If being a bit greedy then I hope we can convert at least one of Archer or Ramsey to permenants as it sounds like we wanted both.

I fully agree. We definitely seem to be a bit more measured in our targets.

The new model seems to be working well. The only kinda 'issue' I don't like is 6 loans. I'd rather a couple more young permanent deals.

I shudder to think what we are paying in wages and loan fees. Especially with Muniz and Mowett who ain't getting a kick. I am stunned we still have them all (although understand Mowett had played for 2 teams).

I appreciate the way we've gone about doing our business during this window.

It was always going to be tough during the summer window due to the turnover in players which was required, but at the same time it was obvious that Clarke wasn't the overlapping cente halve Wilder wanted, and we only signed Luongo to fill a gap, after failing to sign a midfielder.

I'm not saying any of this to defend Wilder of course, as he was still stupid not to play Forss, or give Hackney a chance.

This time around it feels as if we've only brought in players who the manager really wanted, and have had the luxury of being able to say that we'd be happy to go with what we have, should we not bring anyone in.

I agree with this, and also felt frustrated that Wilder wouldn't consider the youngsters. We have to credit Leo with bringing Hackney into the team though. And Carrick for keeping him there. He has got better and better!

The Boro boss said: “Listen, let’s be right about this, this is top end Championship we’re looking to play. This is not being disrespectful to the young boys. They’ve done great against Bishop Auckland and York. But they’ve got to carve out a career. Would I expect them to be in the squad for the first game of the season? No.

"You never know, but I think there is still a lot of work to be done with them and a lot of development for them. The one good thing is that this club will always develop good young footballers, but when we want to be at the top of that division, and you look at how strong that division is, we’re going to need players who know how to win at the top end of the Championship.

"I would never completely close the door on any of them. If one of them comes all the way through pre-season then I’d be daft not to. That has happened before. But I think there has to be an appreciation for the standard of opposition that we’re playing today, and that will obviously take a step up when we go out to Portugal.”
