Carricks first game to be Preston

I think the new manager should be in on day 1, not waiting a fortnight. I don't know about anyone else but I've seen it many times in the real world that as soon as it is known that the current manager is no longer someone you have to impress or work hard for then people are on wind down. Like the run in to Xmas where not much gets done. Why would the players be working hard in training, learning new things etc when they know the work they are doing might be irrelevant in a week or two.

That is exactly the Tony Mowbray philosophy. He always said that when he was at Boro and I reminded him of that recently at the Camsell statue unveiling as he again took over Sunderland on match one. He was in the dug out not watching from the stands. In the record books you are in charge and why would you not want to influence things and take the reigns immediately is Mowbray's thinking.

Different personality types I guess. Hard to come in as a new manager and try to instil an attitude of professionalism if you're changing coaches every week, Chris Wilder was in the background long before he started, I guess it would help knowing where everyone was physically, what was going wrong on the pitch and having a clear plan how to rectify those situations before you rock up.

Mowbray had been in the game a lot longer and had to mend and make do. We've got a bit of breathing space and it's best we do what we can with it imo

There is no right or wrong is there... Carrick might have a dentist appointment in Manchester on Friday and Alex Bruce might be getting his covid jab in Hull.

First of all professional pride, or to impress the new manager who you know will be sure to watch the game (whether live or on playback)

I guess by not talking the dugout you can see which players are profiessional and which ones are downing tools. Pros and cons to both ways

Boro won when they knew Pulis was coming in and liddle managed them

Does anyone think Carrick will turn it around in the next 5 games before break more than leo can i dont the team needs improvement.
Leo Percovich

Next two games a draw and a loss?

14 points - same as expected from Wilder
(averaging 1ppg so slightly higher)

First 5 games for Carrick with 6 points
(a 20% improvement) 20 points

25 games remaining to acquire a further 30 points for safety.

4 games after the break to the window
5 points from 4 would be a nice 25 points

4 games during the window.

6 points from 4 would show a 50% improvement 31 points (1.5ppg)

After the window

19 points needed with 17 games to finish

1.1ppg gets us 50 points 21st?

1.5ppg gets us 56 points 16th?

1.7ppg playoff form 60 points 14th?

2ppg automatic promotion 65 points 10th?

If we’re anywhere near 60 points we’re in with a shout for promotion next season.

17th would be my guess and that would see a marked improvement.

If they had any professional pride they wouldn't have stopped playing for Wilder. The new manager will be watching all of our games I hope so playing well in 1 game isn't going to make a huge difference

Out of interest, does anyone know / or can find out, what formation Carrick played in his few games in charge of Man Utd? And did he change it from the previous manager?

“In his three games in caretaker charge of United, Carrick opted twice (against Villarreal and Arsenal) for their usual 4-2-3-1 formation used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but had a higher line when out of possession, allowing for an instant press.

In United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Carrick opted for a more narrow 4-4-2 diamond formation. This change saw nine outfield players back in defensive phases, while the striker would be ready for a counter if possible. In all of Carrick’s three games in charge, he set United up to counter with six men going forward and the back-four remaining in defence.

He played 4312 in the away game at Chelsea and 4231 in the other 2 games (the formation Ole generally went with).

I remember a lot was made about the fact he'd dropped Ronaldo for the Chelsea game and played Rashford and Sancho as split strikers, with Fernandes in the hole.
