Carrick long term future

Interesting listening to Maddo on the way home yesterday, he said what maybe we all fear - our biggest issue might be keeping hold of Carrick. West Ham fans today saying they want Carrick in and Moyes out, I’m sure other a fair few Prem league chairman will be keeping an eye on how he’s doing.

Now I personally think he’s an honourable man so no chance of a Wilder less than a season in. I also think (hope!) he’s bought into it here, not just getting us promoted and scrapping for survival, but really getting us back established and pushing for some silverware. But is that just my rose tinted specs?

I can’t imagine him leaving for a lower end PL club and really, other than the top 6-8 I think many of the other clubs are much of a muchness. West Ham great last season and in Europe, fighting to stay up this. So do we think his head could be turned? I reckon Spurs will be looking for a new manager in summer.

We need to get behind him and really show him how much we love him here and want him to stay long term. I still feel like the crowd are not as in love with him as they were Wilder!

Sadly money talks. Carrick seems like a private fella. He little wave yesterday when beckoned was no where near the likes of Leo etc.

I turned the radio on last night after coming home and the first thing I heard was Mark Goldbridge on TalkSport suggesting West Ham fans might be wanting to go for Carrick given his history there… it winds me up how PL teams think they can just poach anyone purely because they’re a PL team, regardless of the precarious position they’re in.

Thankfully, and I know this is risky to say as we all thought Wilder was the same, but I think Carrick is a very loyal and honest person and has some integrity about him.

There will obviously be a time when he takes a forward step but I don’t think he’ll jump.

Honestly if he went now he'd be daft. If we miss out on promotion and there's a good offer for him in the summer I wouldn't begrudge him, but I'd desperately hope he'd commit to smash the league next year.

Ultimately this season could be lightning in a bottle though and we have to capitalise on it and gain promotion one way or another from where we now are. Simply no guarantee we replicate it next year if not.

100% agree. For the United job it would be a different matter but Ten Hag will be there a while which’ll allow Carrick to establish us in the PL. Plus with recruitment and behind the scenes being sorted it won’t be on one person long term.

West Ham have a really talented squad that would suit his style of football - but it is a graveyard for managers. He'd back himself - but he's not daft. Lots of good championship managers have made the leap too soon, failed and then had to rebuild their reputation.

Best to prove yourself at the Boro, Michael. Just for the next decade or so.

Wouldn't shock me if they went for him in the summer.

Obviously be a harder sell if he's able to get us promoted before then, so fingers crossed he does.

It was a noticeable change of tune from Maddo, I’m sure he said pretty much the opposite after the QPR game. Made me think he knows something. I’m hoping it’s just my paranoia playing up mind!

I don’t see Carrick staying here long. I’m just praying we can get what we need out of him before he moves on.

A realistic big job for him to hold out for - and again with a personal connection - would be Spurs. Both he and Woodgate...
That’s the one I’m worried about to be honest. Conte will be gone in summer. Might be like Lampard to Chelsea though, bit soon for him and I’m not sure Spurs fans would want someone with so little experience. Can’t see him going to West Ham.

I do think he's got way more integrity than Wilder but at some point we are not going to be able to hold onto him. If Moyes got sacked before the end of the season then I don't think he would leave us at this point. If we go up this year we should be in a better position to keep him as it would take a top Premier league club to tempt him away. However if we don't go up it will be harder to hang on. That's the downside of having someone so good, they attract the attention of others.

I'm hoping we can hang onto him for another couple of seasons at least but that may depend on getting to the premier league and staying there. He will go on to bigger things lets hope that it's later rather than sooner. I can see him being England manager at some point.

I think Carrick would be a complete idiot to go to West Ham.
They are financially a bigger basket case than us, look like going down, don't own their ground and have won nowt for well over 40 years.
They have finished no higher in the top flight than us ffs and been in the top flight just 4 more seasons than us in history.
Their ground is full of tourists and tossers who only go because they can't get in to see their favoured club. See how they quickly they have turned on Moyes.

By all means Carrick should eventually move to a big club in the future, but come on, West F***ing Ham???????
